Who Are Your Favorite Fictional Characters (tv, movies, literature etc.)?

RE: Who Are Your Favorite Fictional Characters (tv, movies, literature etc.)?
As EP noted, the OP asks two different questions.

Characters I most Like: James T Kirk and Benjamin L Sisko from the original Star Trek series and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 respectively. These are larger than life characters with strength of will and conviction to their principles beyond what we would consider realistic. They are ultimate bad-ass heroes. Garack from Deep Space 9 gets a mention here too. He is an absolutely delightful character with an unlikely mix of charisma, deeply-held principles and complete lack of regard for traditional morals. He's definitely a maverick. You couldn't resist bellying up to a bar with him because he's so fascinating but you would be best advised not to turn your back on him. What a brilliant character!

Character I most identify with: Gilbert from Revenge of the Nerds. He's a good match for my realistic optimism. Like Gilbert, I'm a cautious optimist. I have full optimism in the ability of humankind to rise to whatever heights are allowed by the laws of physics but I'm also fully cognizant of our failings. Like Gilbert, I would not likely be swayed by hucksters like the Alpha-Beta in Revenge of the Nerds II but I would fully accept true converts like Fredrick Aloysius Pawlowski (Ogre, you asshole) if he proved himself worthy.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I would agree.  Like Crusher, you are intellectually gifted, sir.

Well, thanks for the cool responses so far.  I guess two of my favorite characters are Steve Urkel from Family Matters and Q from Star Trek: The Next Generation.  In terms of fictional characters I identify with, I can think of three: Klaatu (The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1951), Colonel Dax (Paths of Glory, 1957), and Mr. Spock from Star Trek: The Original Series.

Rory Gilmore, Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls

Jeff Rosso from Freaks and Geeks

Angela Chase and Brian Krakow from My So Called Life.

Bob and Charlotte from Lost In Translation

I'll try to think of more. What I need to do is read more. I never read much in high school, and missed out on some classics.

I like the character of Brenda Leigh Johnson from The Closer the best, but I'm probably more like Lieutenant Tao.
