Prosecutors said that Eliseo Perez Jr., an assistant chief for security, and Gerald Vaughn, a captain, ordered members of an elite correction squad to beat the inmate, Jahmal Lightfoot, after Mr. Perez thought the inmate was being insolent.

Chicago cop indicted for shooting into car full of teenagers in 2013

A Chicago police officer who was captured on a dashboard camera in 2013 firing into a car full of teenagers, wounding two of them, has been indicted on federal civil rights charges, prosecutors said on Friday.

As is apparently standard operating procedure in Chicago, when one cop starts shooting all the rest start lying.

The Fraternal Order of Police has told the Chicago Tribune newspaper that Proano and another police officer stopped the car because they believed it was stolen. The police union said that Proano opened fire out of concern for a passenger who was being dragged by the vehicle.

Here's the video as released by the judge.  See if you see anyone being "dragged by the vehicle."

Ohio police officers indicted in shooting death and beating case

A Cleveland police officer was indicted for negligent homicide in the shooting death of an unarmed black man on Friday and two former officers in nearby East Cleveland were indicted for kidnapping and assault for beating a black man who was under arrest.

The indictments by a Cuyahoga County grand jury came amid increased scrutiny of the use of force by police in Ohio, where an officer in Columbus this week shot and killed a thirteen-year-old who was carrying a pellet gun.

It must be a terrible shock to them that they just can't shoot anyone they want.  Of course, getting a conviction is another story.

Scotland Yard has launched an investigation after dramatic footage emerged which appears to show a policeman attacking a car after the driver refused to get out.
The clip, shared on social media on Saturday and viewed more than 40,000 times, shows what appears to be a police officer - filmed from the position of the driver - repeatedly telling him to "get out of the car", adding: "You're not allowed to drive it."
The officer then hits the driver's side window with what looks like a baton, before a voice can be heard saying: "I've got a licence. I've got a licence. I've got insurance. You're smashing this for no reason."

I bet I know what happened here.  The guy's car stalled and as the cops approached he continued to try to start it.  If he had started it he might have used it to run over the cops so, as soon as they got close enough to make sure he was black, they wasted him.  Better safe than sorry, eh coppers?

So on one hand we have...

“Less than a second elapsed between Villarreal commanding Herrera to take his hand from his pocket and Villarreal shooting him,” the court wrote, citing dashboard video from the police car. “Just as Herrera's hand came out of his pocket, Villarreal fired two shots in rapid succession...The command and the shots were almost simultaneous.”

and on the other we have...

Friday’s decision contradicts a 2013 verdict by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, which said the shooting was reasonable and justified because Herrera had ignored orders to raise his hands before Villarreal fired his weapon.

How can this be?

Oh.

The Orange county prosecutors’ case didn’t use the video and instead relied on the officer’s statements.

The cops lied and the DA threw the case to protect his buddies in blue.  Yay, 'murrica.
