I'm not "special" because I'm going to have an afterlife, but rather because unlike all other creatures on earth, I'm made in the image of God. Having an afterlife is one result of being in God's image, but even if it wasn't I would still be special because God made me to be special.

How I deal with no afterlife
|
I've never understood why no afterlife is regarded as a problem in first place.

No egotistical or pleasant activities, only work/suffering for the ideals of religion. Sorry, my bad, while I modified my post, I accidently erased first sentence "Price tag for eternity is too big to endure". This conflict would be that for such a special and valuable person as myself to just forever rot and decay away would be the greatest insult to my value and specialness as a human being. You really need to reframe your thought process. You are privileged to get to live at the best time in human history. There is a long, unbroken chain of success of every organism that lead to you, from your most recent ancestors, to the most ancient single celled creature. You are the product of the winners, not the whiners. The fact that we are all going to die, is a good thing. It is part of the process that helps our species, and whatever comes after us, be better at surviving and flourishing. The thought of an afterlife, just belittles this one and makes it seem like a place just to wipe our feet, while waiting for the 'real life' to start. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence. Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
How do I deal with no afterlife? It's actually not anything I deal with on a continual basis.
I've accepted it, and moved on. Doesn't matter if it's not "good enough" for me...that's how it is. Nothing to be done about it. Pondering it further serves no purpose, IMO.
