The Newly Departed thread: announcements (departures)
RE: The Newly Departed thread: announcements (departures)
Thank you Thena, I've enjoyed your company on here very much Heart I wish you all the best too Smile

This really is so sad. I wish there was any other way. Believe me I've tried.

To be quite honest, stuff like this is making me considering leaving. I'm not even involved, but the drama is clear.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

Well, I know better than to expect that; it's obvious to me that the Staff have dug their heels in and will not entertain contrary opinion. But as you yourself have pointed out, this forum is committed to free speech, and that's exactly what I'm doing here: speaking my mind.

If that gets you pissed off enough to start name-calling ("dick", "prick"), well that's your problem, now isn't it? You'll find sympathy in the dictionary, between shit and syphilis.

I'd sure hate to see that, Jess. We need more, not less, like you.

Well there's good people here that I stick around for. You and Rob are two of them. I'm sorry to see one leave.

I think there might have been some kind of miscommunication when I said something else was coming. I'm not entirely sure what it is now.

Anyhow, I've been campaigning to fix what I perceive as holes in the rules that allow for harassment and breaches of privacy. I've been blocked, citing "free speech" as the reason. I cannot stomach this. Free speech should not extend to invading privacy and protecting harassment. I don't feel I've been properly listened to, quite honestly. But I tried my absolute best.

You and me both. I find Rob's leaving disheartening.

No doubt you did, bud -- but minds are like cement sometimes, once they've set, you have to break out the jackhammer to change them.

Isn't there already a rule against sharing private info from other users without their consent?

""
Doxing is not allowed. We consider doxing to be the act of posting private or personally identifiable information about any person, whether they are a member of these forums or not.

The punishment for violating this rule will be a permanent ban.
""

hmm... that consent detail is absent there... bah... as it is, it's more restrictive.

Harassment should be covered under the Threats, Trolling and/or Flaming rules. If those rules are being applied fairly... well, that's another issue... given the subjective nature of what "threats, trolling and flaming" are. The rules try to specify what is officially considered any of those behaviors, but some leeway should be given to mods when they see a constant skirting of some or all those rules by the same user.
Whatever happened to that nuke option? You could implement it so that staff require some 8 or 10 points to apply it to someone, just to make sure that most mods and admins are on-board with it.

People who feel harassed in some way should first and foremost, put the harasser on ignore, thus severing any connection between the two. And, of course, report it.
The more reports for crappy attitude from a particular member, the more pressure there is to update the rules to dispose of said member and prevent similar noxious people from disturbing the forum. I know there's a rule against reporting stuff that's not really against the rules... but in some cases, they're justified and should lead the staff to think about the issue.

I don't wanna be considered irrational. I want to be considered ultra-rational to such a high degree that I am shamelessly hyperactively irrepressibly seemingly irrational and it's not because I'm irrational it's because I'm not irrationally hiding my irrationally like most folks inadvertently do Big Grin

Like... pretending not to be biased wouldn't be impartial of me... it would be irrationally in denial. Admitting my biases is step 1 of being rational. Step 2 would in theory be to eradicate my biases but I don't believe that's possible in practice and pretending it is and trying to change the biases I cannot change is more irrational than acknowledging it and rubbing it in everyone's faces provided that they enjoy it or at least don't tell me to fuck off or that I'm bothering them.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

That has got to be one of the longest run on sentences I've ever read.

O.o
