You know these long words are a lot harder than I'm used to. I've never done one more than five letters before. As an intro, it would be better for noobs I think and definitely more fun for me too.

I've read the thread and all this is still confusing. When it's my turn to host I think I'll just explain separate rules about scoring and such, if that's okay, otherwise can we get a separate thread for all the rules to be explained and such?
We call this game Cow-Bull.
Cow is right letter wrong slot, Bull is right letter right slot. Five letters is the high end, and you play against each other (each of you has a word, whoever gets their opponent's word first is the winner.)
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

And yes, I've never played more than 5 letter words before. When you consider the color peg version is what, like 6 colors in four or five positions? Twenty six letters is somewhat ameliorated by the requirement of being an actual word. When I keep track of the information I just record the number of letters in it at all with the number of those in the correct spot in parentheses. Like: FURRY 2(1) for two letters in the word but just one of those in the right spot. RE: New forum game: Word Mastermind

This game is probably a bit difficult to understand at first, if you've never played Mastermind...one of the most awesome games ever. Not having the previous guesses available at a glance, (as one would on a Mastermind board), makes it significantly trickier.
This format tends to break concentration/continuity of thought, IMO. Props to people who've guessed correctly in this thread; they're indeed Master Masterminds, with excellent deduction skills AND superb memories. Or they've just got sense enough to keep score on a piece of paper. ![]() Either way, pretty smart.
I was gonna make a post about how to understand this easier, but it got too wordy so fuck it.
I think if you get the right letter in the right place, it should be like hangman. Those letters stay put where they are and the person hosting that word, says so. It's that way in mastermind. If you get the right color in the right spot, it is indicated as such. This should be the same way. But that's just a suggestion. Especially if there are going to be words with more than five letters. Disclaimer: I am only responsible for what I say, not what you choose to understand.
