Liberal Democrat, Labour and SDLP MPs have told the BBC they are prepared to vote against triggering Article 50.

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron said his party would oppose it, unless they were promised a second referendum on the UK's Brexit deal with EU leaders.

Several Labour MPs are also willing to vote against it, despite the Labour Party pledging not to do so.

The government says it will stick to its timetable and begin the process of leaving the EU by the end of March.

EU citizenship proposal could guarantee rights in Europe after Brexit

The plan, tabled by a liberal MEP from Luxembourg, could mean British citizens who opt for the new status would be able to continue to travel freely and live on the continent – rights that may no longer be automatic after Brexit.

Of course the Brexiters are moaning about it saying that it is divisive and Brits should stay in Britain.

Brexit campaigners in Britain reacted with anger to the idea, arguing that it would discriminate against Leave voters and that it was “an outrage”.

“This is an outrage. The EU is now attempting to divide the great British public at the exact moment we need unity. 17.4 million people voted to Leave the EU on 23 June and as a result the UK as a whole will get Brexit,” she said.

“Brexit means laws which impact the people of the UK will be created by accountable politicians in Westminster. It is totally unacceptable for certain citizens in the UK to subject themselves to laws which are created by politicians who are not accountable the British people as a whole. Discriminating against people based on their political views shows there are no depths the EU will not sink to.”

Which is absolute bollocks because the Brits with EU citizenship would be living in the EU. If the Brexiters want to live in a shit hole then let them, just don't force other people to as well. And giving people an escape route from something they didn't ask for is somehow discrimination? 17.4million may have voted to leave the EU but the majority in Scotland voted to remain and we're still being dragged out.

A Europhile peer has provoked outrage after he claimed Britain needs intelligent migrants to come to the UK because "native" Britons are "so bloody stupid".

Lord Kerr of Kinlochard is the peer responsible for writing Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which gives any EU member the right to quit unilaterally.

The former Secretary General of the European Convention told an event yesterday that the Leave campaign only won by "cleverly outsourcing xenophobia and racism" to the Ukip leader Nigel Farage.

He also insisted that the arrival of migrants was a "good thing" and kept Britain running.

The cross-bench peer blamed Brexit on David Cameron’s "disastrous" commitment to keep net migration at under 100,000 a year.

Peter Lilley, a Eurosceptic Tory MP, walked out of the talk after claiming Lord Keer showed "contempt for ordinary British people."

The Supreme Court’s most senior judge has been urged to stand down from a crucial legal hearing on Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union after it emerged his wife had posted a series of anti-Brexit tweets.

Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the president of the Supreme Court, was accused by pro-Brexit Conservative MPs of being compromised by his wife’s views.

The Supreme Court’s code of conduct warns justices to be aware “that political activity” of a close relative could raise concerns over impartiality although a senior source said the judge was “absolutely confident” there had been no breach in this case.

Senior Tories have urged Theresa May to scrap the government appeal against a high court ruling which states that parliament must vote on leaving the EU.

Oliver Letwin, the former head of the government’s Brexit preparations, has called for the prime minister to abandon the supreme court appeal over the decision on article 50, the mechanism that triggers exit negotiations.

The former attorney general Dominic Grieve and former solicitor-general Sir Edward Garnier also said May should avoid taking the case to the highest court in the UK.

Instead the Conservatives, who all supported the remain campaign, said they wanted the process to start as soon as possible with a bill in parliament.

Garnier told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Saturday: “That way you avoid an unnecessary legal row, you avoid a lot of unnecessary expense, but you also avoid an opportunity for ill-motivated people to attack the judiciary, to misconstrue the motives of both parties to the lawsuit, and you provide certainty.”

Lawyers for the Scottish and Welsh governments have been allowed to take part in the supreme court case over Theresa May’s decision to bar MPs from voting on Brexit.

In an unprecedented hearing, all 11 supreme court judges will convene in early December to rule on whether the Commons must be allowed to vote on triggering the article 50 process, against the UK government’s wishes.

The supreme court confirmed on Friday that the chief law officers for the Scottish and Welsh governments would be allowed to intervene, broadening the case into a legal battle over the role and status of three parliaments in the process.

Meanwhile in Belfast, a campaigner for victims of paramilitary violence has won the right to a hearing in the supreme court aimed at blocking Northern Ireland from leaving the EU. The high court ruled that Raymond McCord’s legal challenge against Brexit could be heard in London.

This month three high court judges in London ruled that the prime minister did not have the power to use the royal prerogative to invoke article 50 without parliamentary approval, a ruling now being challenged by May.

The UK government has rejected Scottish claims that Holyrood should have a direct say in triggering article 50. It argues that foreign affairs and legal treaties are matters entirely reserved for the UK government.

I haven't got the source handy at the minute, but an EU official suggested that people might have to pay an annual fee for it, providing that it is approved of course. But yeah it's an excellent idea for anybody who wants it.
