I traded my hippy values in on the Force™. Gotta trust the force, man. But I'm with you in finding the many forms religious practice takes around the world to be fascinating. But, while interested, I just don't care to go native myself.

what do you folks think about this religion?

I don't have a problem with it. If it brings them joy and makes them better people, I don't see what there is to be upset about.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I don't understand the point of any religion. The thing that seems to define them is dogma. I find that a stupid concept. As with anything, I'll take the good ideas because they are good, and I'll discard the rest.

I don't think anyone's upset, just naturally skeptical of yet another religion. I personally don't know much, if anything, about the Ba'hai religion other than it's yet another religion I don't care to follow. I find that "treat others kindly" is enough religion for me.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

The notion that religion "makes people better" is probably one of the sickest and most insulting ideas that people have ever used to justify their silly beliefs, or shield the silly beliefs of others from criticism. It doesn't do that, none of them do, so what are we talking about..a way to make the other guy sound like an asshole for calling idiocy....... idiocy? Whose the asshole in that equation, again?

He wasn't the first to say it. He got preempted by a few thousand years. Nevertheless, it was as true when he said it as it was when the sentiment was first expressed and just as true today. It;s kind of interesting to me, because I understand the need for societal opiates, as it were (and personal opiates)...it just strikes me as strange that the very people who consume the juice make such inane efforts to characterize it as anything, absolutely anything other than what it is. It's almost as if they wouldn;t be able to accept it unless it was more than what it was...and that...to me...is telling.

If you have to have dogma to be a good person, you're a psychopath, and you have no way of distinguishing a good outcome from a bad one (morally speaking).
Religion, at best, acts as a mirror for people's own morality. At worst, it warps their natural morality with taught/enforced bigotry. The idea that religion is somehow necessary to be a good person is just part of the dogma, and is only supported in a circular manner. (I'm moral because I'm a Christian, and so I have Christian moral values, etc.) Feel free to send me a private message.
