We're weight twins, I think. I started last year at 240, by far the heaviest I've ever been. Now I should be a little under 190.
Have you ever been 160 as an adult? I weighed 165 in high school and had a fairy waist. I'm open to the possibility of setting for a little more than 170 but I'd rather at least try that out. Deciding on a target weight is harder than deciding to start losing.
Was there a reason that you decided to take it off when you did? For me it was the feeling that if I don't do it now that I'm retired, when will I?

Yeah, I think it is like a slow form of suicide. I'm fortunate to not have so much to have to lose, compared to most. But I'm from a family riddled with type 2 diabetes and early heart disease so it would be foolish for me not to lose.

I used to weigh 160 pounds for several years until one day around mid 20ies I became ill and gained a whopping 70 pounds in about 1 to 1½ months. I never, until recently lost all those extra pounds (I'm talking weighing 220-230 pounds for 8-9 years). It's a long story, but the gist is that I lost 40 pounds on changing the way I eat, not just dieting. Dieting doesn't work and is only a temporary loss of weight.

I noticed that once I got away from burgers and pizza and processed food, to my surprise, I enjoyed food more, also.
I even got to the point that I found myself struggling to hide my grimace when I saw other people eating it.
It just looks unappealing after awhile.
Same with portions...when I gave myself smaller and fewer portions, and slowed down,
I realized I felt better afterward...instead of feeling like I'd overeaten.
I had more energy....not less.
I don't miss the junk food.

Posted this in another thread....but thought it might be useful, here, also:
Just finished telling a friend how I recently bought a "Spiralizer" and I love it:
There's different versions out there, mine is made by Starfrit, cost about $20-$25 CDN.
If you love veggies, it is a great way to get more of them into your diet.
I make the julienned "noodles" out of zucchini and steam them, in lieu of pasta.
Brilliant.
Also great for raw; can make ribbons of cucumber or apple; pretty much anything.

I agree entirely. I actually found it easy to maintain my the weight I'd lost for a year and actually lost ten more pounds. Once you understand how to eat and how much you need I don't find it hard to maintain. But losing involves some sacrifice.
Oh, and I actually went up 0.2 pounds this week darn it. But several from the class and I are planning a pot luck at my place in a week or two, and I plan to stay in losing mode hopefully until I weigh 170 but if 175 feels right I'll go with that. I don't really know what a good final goal for me would be, all I know is I want to be light on my feet again and soon.

Thanks. I wonder if this is how they make broccoli slaw? Looks like a really good idea.

You betcha. There's some great videos on Spiralizers on YouTube if you want a demo.
I used to make veggie ribbons with a handheld potato-peeler or a mandoline; this is so much better.

Do it. I bought mine at a hardware store, of all places.
The only things it's not so good for is small things: like if you want to slice cherry tomatoes, grapes, or brussel-sprouts.
If you want to finely-slice raw brussel-sprouts for a kale salad, use a mandoline,
but use the Spiralizer for the broccoli stalks.

Just a weekly update. The healthy eating class at Kaiser ended last Tuesday. I forgot to weigh in yesterday but intend to post weekly weights every Tuesday just to keep myself accountable.
So this morning my nekid weight was 187 pounds. 170 is nominally still the goal. See you in a week.
