Atrocities in the Bible
RE: Atrocities in the Bible
(February 16, 2017 at 1:39 am)Khemikal Wrote: New verse?  Controversy? It;s not new -or- controversial. It's as old as the KJV, and retranslated without any significant changes up to the NIV.  The ritual is meant to induce a miscarriage in the event of an unfaithful spouse.  That's not my translation, that's just what the narrative says.  That is an abortion, decided upon by the husband, carried out by the preist, to avoid becoming a cuckold......signed sealed and delivered as The Law™.

Do you have a problem with the word of god? Would you like to correct the word of god, for the benefit of those of us who suffer from the misfortune of an excess of literacy and dearth of faith?

My previous post stands in full, why, because you thought you had found a controversial passage but you did not. Like I said if that were the meaning of the passage the Pro-Choice movement would have been using them many years ago.
Just because a woman was unfaithful to her husband doesn't mean she became pregnant so why use something to cause an abortion, if they did and it happened the aborted child could have been the husbands son. Joseph didn't do this with Mary when he believed she had been unfaithful. That law was still in effect for the Jewish people at that time. Your idea on this passage is wrong on so many accounts it's pathetic.
You've never gone back and read the passage as I requested and I still say it's because you're afraid of the truth, so I will go this far with the verses. When did dirt from a dirt floor ever become an agent in abortion, is there a precedent for this?

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

So what IS the meaning of the passage? What is its message to us imbeciles?

Why?  It's not as if the woman has a choice in the narrative described.

Quote:Just because a woman was unfaithful to her husband doesn't mean she became pregnant so why use something to cause an abortion, if they did and it happened the aborted child could have been the husbands son.
Interesting questions..but you'd have to ask the writer of the narrative, who explicitly claims that this ritual will cause a miscarriage.

Quote:Joseph didn't do this with Mary when he believed she had been unfaithful. That law was still in effect for the Jewish people at that time. Your idea on this passage is wrong on so many accounts it's pathetic.
Jospeh was okay with being cuckolded, obviously, the men who sought out ritual abortions as a test of fidelity were not. That;s kindof what sets Jospeh apart as a good guy, in the narrative.,..he doesn't do terrible things™ to Mary as a result of her having a little side penis.

Quote:You've never gone back and read the passage as I requested and I still say it's because you're afraid of the truth, so I will go this far with the verses. When did dirt from a dirt floor ever become an agent in abortion, is there a precedent for this?
It became an agent in abortion in the narrative in question....as I said, I'm not as credulous as you, I don;t think they shared the recipe for their abortifacient, lol. Why would they, they were collecting revenue on it..oh, oh, excuse me..."offerings".

Quote:27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. 28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

What did gods word get wrong here, GC? What's it really about, since it's not about what it says it's about? Is it "not abortion" when the kid is someone elses? Well, hallelujah...the kid being someone else's is probably a driving factor in more than a few abortions. You ready to greenlight that, like god did? Or would you prefer to continue with this absurd tap dancing?

Well, look who cucked him. You don't get to abort the Mafia boss's kid, even if it is your wife he potted. And Mary knew that.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Don;t fuck around on your husband, or he'll have a priest strap you to a table and god will kill your baby then curse your womb (and when GC is done tapdancing around abortion we'll get to that little gem...the forced sterilization of women).

Importantly, none of this will be the guys fault...which is a common theme...the bible takes great pains to aqcuit the men in question, as it did with Lot's threesome with his daughters.  Cuz, you know, if you get a guy drunk he's inavariably going to spit roast his little girl....and if he gets jealous, you can't really blame him for torturing his wife.

I haven't been keeping up... has the bastard child explained the meaning of the passage or not? If not, kudos to you GBC... that's a cock-solid 3 pages of tapdancing.

That's nothing in comparison to the cock-solid decades he's been able to tapdance around the fact that his "god" had no problem with abortions..that would be the catholic hierarchy and then the GOP, that..disturbingly, his faith has been hijacked by politics. He doesn't realize that he's casting his offerings to the graven image of a jackass.

I know but he can go decades without being asked about this obscure passage. I just find it fascinating that for 3 damn pages he continues to avoid the question despite everyone constantly reminding him.

Christianity is basically a set-it-and-forget-it religion, so I can see how one goes so long without introspection. But this tapdance puts it on a whole new level.

I made a simple request from either of you and neither has been polite enough to answer my question. You both seem to believe it's me who is not co-operative when in reality it's the two of you who have held up the conversation, why, to bash the Christian, yes. Read the passages and tell me what was put into the water? Then we can go from there.
