Dreams are just our emotions manifesting themselves into visuals. Our desires, our fears, etc. and taking our memories as guides to them. There's no reality checker, so your brain just lets whatever go. Sometimes they're absurd and meaningless, like the Angry Video Game Nerd talking about how he used to play DOS games on the SNES by putting the motherboard from his computer in the cartridge slot. Yep, that happened in my dream last night too. Other times they can be quite meaningful, like dreams about a loved one having an affair. That last one is a real fear that I think most people have, and seems to be a common dream for people.
