"According to military information website Deagel, MOAB costs around $16 million per unit. So far the U.S. military has spent $314 million on the production of the explosive."

Well that armament industry can't produce more while the exit warehouses are full. And I know general industry warehouses.

Maybe they had an outdoor picnic scheduled.

Bunker busters are for penetration. A thousand feet of rock isn't open to penetration. A cave is built into a mountain. Bunkers are built without that mountain. The most notable bunker busted during Desert Storm was in downtown Baghdad.

The MOAB is designed to over-pressure a cave system, crushing anything inside it with a shock wave. 5,000 psi, IIRC.

I don't know what to think about this.  If no civilians were killed, that'd be good. It seems we just cannot get out of the middle east.  Sad

Really, who says we want to get out of the Middle East? I mean, sure, excursions like this are unpopular and a waste of resources and human lives, but it's not like the people who actually run things give a crap about that.

I guess we showed that cave who was the boss.

I wonder how many civilians were hiding in there because of our "normal" bombing?

It says they got a lot of their bats from Carlsbad Caverns. If you've never seen the Carlsbad bats leaving the cave at dusk you should make it a point to do so. It's something worth seeing. Preferably before white-nose syndrome gets there...

It might be not strictly a conventional bomb, but what is called a fuel air bomb, which relies on sucking oxygen from surrounding air to feed the atomized fuel surrounding the bomb, this could asphyxiate people trapped in aconfined space such as a non-airtight bunker.
