You can't be a Christian and commit the unforgiveable sin. The unforgiveable sin is to reject the Holy Spirit's call to come to Christ and become a Christian. You are putting the cart before the horse, that's a good way to get nowhere. Really no one knows, yet I just explained it to you and I've seen other Christians give the same explanation.  No to the bold above, which I made bold. This guy has no idea who God is or what God offers, it's as obvious as the nose on your face.

You seem to be confused about who thinks what is an unforgivable sin. I didn't ask you to explain it to ME.
But gotcha, this guy isn't worthy of your advice. He can go to hell for all you care. Not that he's even telling the truth, it's just another Christian cut-and-paste sob story.

To pick a nit, the temple guards weren't Romans and didn't have the authority to kill anyone.

Oh I understand that. The temple guards were Jews, but guards nonetheless.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

Your so-called "explanation" is no more than the usual butt-hurt wittering that Christians spew when confronted by people who see the believer's imaginary friend as unjust, vicious and evil.

I am one of those people.  If your god actually existed and was as described in the Bible, it would become infinitely evil by the act of sending even one person to hell for eternity.

I do not worship evil gods, and I refuse to accept the tainted "free gift" of salvation.  I do not consent to anyone dying in my place and unconditionally reject the Passover long weekend sacrifice inconvenience  of Jesus in perpetuity.

Sadly that is your choice. We both can't be right and I'm certain I've made the right choice.

So you are sure men pop out of dirt? You are sure women pop out of a man's rib? You are sure that the sun and moon are separate sources of light despite science saying that the photons of the sun bounce off the moon? You are sure that Australian Kangaroos swam across several thousands of miles of ocean to get to the Ark? You are sure that despite a limited gene pool after the flood nobody was fucking family members?

You are sure God went on the Maury Povich show and proved he was the father of the baby? You are sure that Jesus survived death like Penn and Teller sawed the woman in half?

Yep you sound like me when I had a Blockbuster video membership. Went in to rent a movie, spent hours picking one out, got home only to watch it and regretted renting it. I think you are simply stuck in the video store stuck on the shiny packaging and haven't gone back home to stick the video in your player.

If this person is a Christian he is being deceitful in his attempt to convenience atheists to consider Christianity. Being deceitful goes against what the scriptures teach us about how to witness. If this person believes he is right in what he says he isn't a Christian, you'll have to decide what he is. For me either way he is a hoax.

Yes, you're right; he was a hoax.  It was shown that this particular poster is a fraud who merely copied an online apologist stratagem either with the hope of fooling the godless or else on a lark.  So your disdain for him has been shown to be warranted.

I was reacting to the idea of there being a particular way a Christian -as such- must conduct themselves.  I would hope that xtians, like everyone else, are able to go through stages where they might act in ways they later regret.  Sometimes we must go through phases in order to check off some roads as "not for me".  Perhaps I read the part where you said "no way to act" as focused too exclusively on conduct over being?:

Quote:Actually if he were to be a Christian I just might get a bit upset with him for such a poor expression of what the Bible says. That is definitely no way for a Christian to act.

Naturally you're free to do as you like but I think sometimes you guys hold yourselves to too high a standard.  Conducting oneself in prescribed ways in order to attain a reward in another place and time just seems so dehumanizing to me.  It makes me sad to think of you doing as you think god has told you in order to curry His favor.  Surely there are better ways to be Christians?

I did not act/react in a way to gain favor with God, that would constitute works = salvation and the Bible doesn't teach that. My standard is Jesus Christ and I fail daily ti live to that standard, so I do have a high standard to try and meet. I said what I did because I did not want the unbelievers here to think that was the way a Christian would witness. The failings in what he said were so many and not even close to the truth the Bible teaches. I just wasn't going to let someone come here and try to misrepresent the Christian faith in such a horrible way, so I spoke up. To witness for Christ is to give an account for what I believe and that was partly what I was doing.

And I'm certain you've made the wrong choice. How do you propose we solve this little impasse? Because I have a pretty simple, completely reliable way to do that. It doesn't require that you open your heart to science, either (although your mind being open would probably help.)
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

I'm not confused about who thinks what, it's the atheist here that are confused, so confused I thought it prudent to explain the unforgivable sin one more time.

See, you've just proved my point about faith. Regardless of your level of it, you have to have come to the conclusion that a nonbeliever is deluded and/or stupid and/or ignorant and/or mistaken. Not one of those things is possible not to feel insulted by.

Believe me, if he's torturing me, I'll be ready to believe whatever he wants and accept whoever he wants me to in a matter of seconds. I know what being burned feels like.

But I won't do it just because members of a locally popular religious sect have stories to tell.

If I was going to follow a theistic religion, why would I pick one whose deity acts like a Mafia Don?

If you are speaking about doing so after death that will be to late, God didn't offer us salvation just to keep us out of hell. He's whole reason was to reunite us with Him and live the eternal life He desires for us, beginning here and lasting through eternity.
Your opinion of God is your's and a wrong one I might add, I should know I live in that relationship I keep telling you about.

Well, I happen to have science on my side.  Awareness requires brainwave activity within a certain frequency range.  Dead brains do not generate any brainwaves; hence, no thought, no memory, no sensation and no belief.  (To put this in perspective, we don't experience those things in deep, dreamless sleep either.)

Therefore, if your alleged god wanted to punish someone for what they did in their mortal lifetime, it would have to deliberately and with malice of forethought recreate that person's neural network, complete with memories of that person's deeds, solely for the purpose of torturing them forever.  When one considers that it would be just as easy to recreate a heaven-worthy personality, your god is *ahem* without excuse.

I am so sure that heaven and hell are utter bollocks, though, that I actually took a vow to go to hell if for some reason it exists (although I doubt that very, very much).  It's been 10 years since I made that vow and I have no regrets and no fear.

Well it's been said, hell can't be much worse than heaven when you really think about it. Come to think of it, I think I'd make that choice too. At least I'd spent my time burning knowing I was as far away from that monster as possible, and as morally and intellectually superior to it as it is possible to be.
