I was answering LadyForCammus. She asked what it says about someone who was peacefully protesting against the statue removal and then stuck around after the nazis showed up. I thought she was implying that there were non nazis protesting there first.

Hmm, I guess I don't follow. Racism is defined as prejudice against someone of another race. I don't see how a person's assessment can be racist if it had nothing to do with any sort of prejudice against another race.
A person may not be a racist (meaning they may not overtly hate another race) but they can still do racist things, or follow a racist ideology.
If you lean a certain way politically, and dogmatically follow a racist revision of history, you may not be a racist, but not correcting yourself when someone points out to you how the revision of history that is being purported by Nazis, white supremacists, the KKK, Donald Trump, and white nationalists is objectively racist, and your political dogmas are more important than your desire not to act or believe in a racist way....

I see this coming from all sides.

See for yourself:
(In case you don't know what "N.S.M." stands for: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_S...ed_States))
Marchers from the night before:
These are the people marching to keep those statues up. Do you really think they value historical fidelity? After all, many of these same folk are undoubtedly Holocaust deniers.
Do you really think they give a shit about their Southern "heritage"? Many if not most of them came from all across the nation.
They do not care about history or heritage. They are marching in order to glorify the subjugation of blacks, and to defend honoring that subjugation with public reminders. They are marching trying to grow their movement. If you want to be neutral, that's your business. Me, I'll keep in mind the dictum that "all it takes for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing."
I cannot and will not be neutral in this matter. I've fought for my country before, and I will continue to do so, in order to keep these Herrenvolk away from power.
Yes, I am not saying those people aren't supremacist. I'm referring to other people who weren't protesting with those guys, but who think the statues should stay up - such as Neo and other people I'm friends with.
Actually I don't really care that much. The South lost the war and it is a bit odd such memorials even exist in the first place. I just don't like iconoclastic movements and the pretense that our generation has the right to deprive future generations of cultural artifacts by destroying them or removing them from their site specific context.

The difference between someone who consistently says and does the same shit racists say and do is precisely nothing, but it's amusing how often the former really want people to believe they aren't the latter.
So, just a statue enthusiast then? What did you think of my proposal? I think that a new inscription would greatly enhance the "context" of the monument. I'm willing to negotiate on the dismount.

Sure. Then it's harder and harder for a person to continue to claim that they aren't racist.

Also why was the confederate constitution far more restrictive on states' rights than the original one. As well as the permanent slavery thing, there were quite a few taxes that the states would have to collect on behalf of the confederacy, and the confederacy had full control over regulating all sea and riverine transport. At the time these were all responsibilities of individual states in the Union

This is what happens when people take Trump's word on shit. First mistake.

But you can point something out to a person and they can still not agree with you. Maybe they just genuinely don't agree that their view of history is incorrect and objectively racist.
