Boehner: ‘A Lot’ Of Republicans Want To Force Default, Create ‘Enough Chaos’ To Pass

I remember studying this subject in my German IV class. We haven't gotten out the jackboots yet but I suspect that won't be our style of fascism. Crosses and fireworks are more our style. Wasn't there once a famous quote along those lines?

This has been happening for the last two decades at least. The Republicans have been following a strategy of run to the right to fire up their base. The Democrats have been following a strategy of chase after them to appeal to the elusive "center" while throwing the base under the bus because, hey, who else are they gonna vote for?

The result now is we have two parties: Fascist and Center Right.

My vote is to work on the Democrat party first. The "conserva-Dems" and the spineless need to be thrown out, even if it means a Republican replaces them. I now refuse to vote for another conserva-Dem just because the alternative Republican may be worse. This includes Obama, who clearly is center-right, contrary to all the screaming of "socialism".

We progressives and others on the left need to make this intention known. We're not volunteeriing or donating or voting unless we see some opposition to the Republican agenda. We're willing to let Romney and the Republicans run the country into the ground for another four years if we have to.

You have to understand why they are whining....and frankly, Obama did not do all that badly except for not getting them to raise taxes on the rich. Obama got what he wanted in the form of a debt ceiling limit which will not come up again until after the next election.

The Tea Baggers ended up with a bill which increased the debt and gave them some minimal spending cuts ( $10 billion out of a trillion dollar budget ) this year but which identifies only "discretionary spending" as the place from which such "savings" can come. Specific programs still have to be ironed out in the appropriations process which will be the usual bloody mess it always is. I'm sure the tea baggers will be aiming for a government shutdown since they seem to think that is a good idea anyway.

In return for getting almost nothing substantial they now find themselves locked in to a "super committee" which has to find 1.5 trillion in savings by December and then get an up or down vote on those recommendations. If they don't then automatic spending cuts go in which do not impact medicare or social security but do impact defense spending. As noted elsewhere, the warmongers and war profiteers are already shrieking about that one.

So, except for the failure to get the Bush tax cuts eliminated on the wealthy I don't think Obama did so badly. There will be no debt-ceiling bullshit during the election but there will be a discussion of republican attacks on the social safety net and their single-minded determination to protect rich motherfuckers from having to pay taxes.

I can't agree with you on that D-P. The alternative of "President Bachmann" or even the other dumb cunt is simply too frightening.

Romney will most likely be their nominee. Bachmann and Perry will get a lot of attention but both are too crazy to get the national nomination, even for the Republican party.

And Romney, much as he'll be a shill for Wall Street, won't be any worse than Obama.

Really, it's a choice of which is worse:
Option #1: Hold your nose, vote conserva-Dem as the "lesser evil" and watch as the cycle continues or
Option #2: Go for a purge of conserva-Dems and eat the pain that will be brought on by another four years of Republican incompetence.

I don't advocate for the latter with a song in my heart. It's the only chance I see to break the cycle.

Anyone who has a better idea, let me hear it.

Romney is benefiting from having far too many other candidates dividing up the crazy vote. As they drop out the crazies are not going to support the Romneycare mormon from Taxachusetts! They will pick another crazy.

Perry is not even in the race yet and the Tea Baggers already hate him because he used to be a democrat. Apparently they use the same system as Hitler used to use for the "Who is a Jew" contest.

The only likely voters that Romney is likely to attract are Huntsman's when he finally drops out....and Huntsman doesn't seem to have any supporters.

Here you go, Void.

Here's a tale about your American "Libertarians" in action.

Quote:These kinds of campaign smears aren't unusual, save for the fact that the "Boucher Betrayed Coal" ads that played in Virginia and that were so effective they eventually cost Boucher his seat, were paid for by the Americans for Prosperity, a special-interest group founded with the support of David H. Koch and Charles G. Koch of Koch Industries, and the same group that was so instrumental during the now infamous health care town hall debacles.

"Liberty" means different things to different people, I suppose.

I'm not saying Republicans will be happy with Romney but who else are they going to pick? I think even they know Bachmann is batshit. Perry isn't even popular in Texas. Pawlenty has wussed out too many times to be taken seriously. Gingrich is too corrupt even for them. Palin is making too much money as a pundit for the Fox Propaganda Channel. Ron Paul? Yeah right. He supposedly founded the Tea Party and we saw how quickly they forgot about him.

I can imagine the thought that will go into the Iowa caucuses. I think they are having a straw poll this weekend. Let's see how crazy they are.

A lot of Republicans...but not Boehner, I'm so sure. /sarcasm

I've said this before, because I happened on the press conference wherein the head of the GOP said, right before the 2009 elections, that the Republican's intent was to gain majority in both the House and Senate. And that way they could hold, and these were his words, America hostage until policy reverted to what they wanted; a return to Bush43 (Bush Jr.) style politics and economy.

Thankfully, they only got majority in the House and yet we see how bad that is.

Rich bastards that don't care one bit for the majority of citizens in this country who are the working class.
It certainly goes a long way to explain the automatic weapons carried by their security detail. They know what they're risking with this hostage negotiation regarding the future of our senior citizens and the working class.

Except if you listen to these tea bagging morons Bush 43 was just as guilty as Obama of out of control spending.

Of course...Dubya was white so that probably explains a lot of it.

I'd say color has everything to do with it.
