Why is there no Puerto Rico thread

RE: Why is there no Puerto Rico thread
I saw some video of sweaty, thirsty and hungry people in the San Juan airport today and then heard Trump congratulating officials on the supposedly great job they've done responding so far. All I thought was Katrina 2.0. The mayor of Puerto Rico said he expects a mass exodus to the mainland, given the mass destruction of their infrastructure.

Yeah, I'm not sure why this hasn't gotten much coverage. I didn't even know things were bad until I looked it up after seeing this post.... Sad

Same. I didn't know things were bad until I heard from a friend who has family in Puerto Rico. And as I've heard it things are just bad, they're disastrous. I have no idea why a part of the US is getting little to no coverage in the US while they're going through.

USS Kearsarge is on the way as well, a few days away. And five aircraft landed with emergency supplies today!

Puerto Rico's crisis is an above the fold headline in the New York Times. No doubt it's the same in other major newspapers today as well.

Yea, I've never read the New York Times. Maybe it's being covered more than I realize.

Just in case there is anyone who thinks that the WLB is not completely full of shit.

Quote:Trump refuses to lift the Jones Act as people across Puerto Rico receive 'nothing, nothing, nothing'

Quote:Meanwhile, following a press conference in which Donald Trump declared no fewer than a dozen times that he was doing a “great” job in Puerto Rico, and said that his actions there received ‘great reviews,’ the administration continues to block an action that could provide relief to the island.
Quote:The Trump administration on Tuesday denied a request to waive shipping restrictions to help get fuel and supplies to storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, saying it would do nothing to address the island’s main impediment to shipping, damaged ports.
While the Trump White House says that temporarily lifting the Jones Act wouldn’t help — it also couldn’t possibly hurt. Limiting the number of ships that can reach the island isn’t just about the amount of material that can be delivered, it’s about the prices. By keeping the fleet that can serve Puerto Rico small at a time when demand outstrips all possible supply, it drives the price of delivery upward.
The failure to lift the restriction makes many worry that Trump is more worried about protecting profits than Puerto Rico.

It's weird that we're talking about Puerto Rico, but I haven't seen any links to charities helping Puerto Rico.

This initiative was started by PR's First Lady. It's legit, and probably the most direct way to send monetary aid: http://unidosporpuertorico.com/en/

There's no need to panic - Trump's got this covered.

He told a press conference that Puerto Rico "is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water."

But for some reason people are being just so mean to him.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
