In a universe 14 billion years old, with trillions of galaxies, each with billions of stars and hundreds of billions of planets and asteroids, why wouldn't the Lord God Almighty by totally obsessed with primitive goat fucking savages on one little piece of rock ??

There was no error at all.
The realty is that these priests decided to become intermediaries between the masses and God in order to control these masses and gain in respect and in material gains.
These evil priests invented the hell in order to keep the masses under their control.
All this goes against Jesus teachings.

forgiving religious error is a Mormon thing too.

Their members have been indemnified in the eyes of heavenly Father in case of errors by the poohbahs running the only entirely correct religion in the entire universe.
