Well as you can see... I registered here a long time ago... just never really did anything. A friend suggested I join here, though that person is not really a friend anymore. I was surprised I was able to get this user name. It's a name that my teachers back in high school used to call me, since I had an extremely high aptitude in math and my name, Matt, sounded very much like the word.
I have been an atheist for more of my life than I haven't. But I've always doubted religion. I've faces discrimination from Christians, even a bit from agnostics. The state I live in has atheists in rather short supply... so... you know how it is. Sometimes you want to have some people to talk to that don't run their life by fairy tales.
I'd classify myself as a strong atheist. I'm anti-theistic, rather vocal about how much I think religion is a detriment to society. So naturally Richard Dawkins is one of the famous atheists I most look up to. Just like him I can be blunt about my opinions, but I'm honest about them. Some people don't like me because of that bluntness. I think my opinion on that is expressed best by the Albert Einstein quote in my sig. This one:
Let's... see... what else is there about me.... uh... Well... I'm extremely curious. I have an uncontrollable desire to know as much as I can. I'm constantly curious about everything. I've tried to absorb as much knowledge in things like science, mathematics, history, etc. as I could. I've always been ahead in learning in school. I went into high school, and college, calculus already having a very strong grasp on the subject. And while I'm on college. I had have a muscle disorder, hypertonia, that forced me to quit the first year. Once my finances are in order, I intend to try again with online classes.
I've never done an introduction thread on a forum before, usually just jumped right to posting in normal threads. Maybe I explained too much. Dunno. Just thought I'd try it out. I guess it's a good start. Maybe as a side effect to my high curiosity, I like to explain things as best I can, even if I'm not always the best at expressing what I'm thinking.
So... I guess... hi then.

Quote:"Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly." — Albert EinsteinIf people don't like me for speaking my mind and being courageous about it, then they don't deserve to be liked in the first place. I'm not going to lie or hold back on my views just because people won't like my views. Christians don't like that I'm an atheist, that doesn't mean I won't stop being one just to make them happy.

A lie is a lie even if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth even if nobody believes it.
There can be no triumph without loss. No victory without suffering. No freedom without sacrifice.
