All I see above are a bunch of fine christian gentlemen in their sunday best.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

And your omnipresent omnibenevolent god when shit like this happens... Say what?
Quote:On August 18, 1769, the city of Brescia in northern Italy was devastated when the Bastion of San Nazaro was struck by lightning. The resulting fire ignited about 90,000 kg (or about 200,000 lb) of gunpowder stored there by the Republic of Venice, causing a massive explosion. Huge stones were hurled in a radius of a kilometer around the explosion, landing on people, houses, and church buildings including Santi Nazaro e Celso. Doors of houses and shops and city gates were thrown open, and broken glass showered down.[1]
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

Attempting to derail the thread? it's amazing how you guys love to deflect onto completely unrelated topics when you see a fellow atheist getting that work.
Explain how what you just posted is relevant to anything?

Do you just not get it?! Lemme 'splain it, like Ricky does (much as that show sucked channel water). The KKK is an extremely christian organization. They'd set a cross of wood on fire on your lawn with no provocation. FFS, what does it take for a person of color to realize what a travesty this is?
I'd like to reiterate, as has been posted by worthies other than I, it would be nice to have ONE THREAD without stupid shit in it. That would be [/internet], it would appear.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Whose fault is it that you don't understand their iconography and theology? The KKK is a deeply christian organization.
Accept it, make sense of it, do what you will with it..... but don;t waste your time denying it, because that makes you look like an idiot and doesn't change their position a single iota.

So, 'atheism' literally means 'not-theism' just like 'amoral' means 'not-moral' in the sense of being not connected to/involved with those things rather than in a pejorative sense (which would be 'antitheism' and 'immoral' respectively).
No dummy, 'atheism' (a = without, theos = god, ism = system) literally means a 'system without god'. A theist can believe a god exists without being religious, but theism is a system based around a belief in god also known as religion. If an atheist is one who simply holds no beliefs in a god, then atheism is a system based on the non-belief of gods... Got it?
Mmmm....NO. I think Kevin is correct on that particular point.
You are kind of on right track though, IMO....at least to some degree. The most publicly visible brand of capital "A" Atheism, though not a religion by definition, exhibits so many of the negative trappings of religion that it's virtually indistinguishable from it in regards to functionality, save for the lack of belief in gods.
The fundamentalism, indoctrination, fanaticism, idolatry, and the sanctioned "preaching" of intolerance, imperialism, misogyny, and racism being "righteously" defended as a means of "following the logic" to the end sure as hell seems to take on the flavor of religion, in my view. Big time.
That's one of the reasons why I (and I imagine many others) have no interest in being aligned with the "Atheist Movements" at large.
Quote:Atheist religions exist, this is fact.
New Atheism fits the bill, in my book.
So, I'll allow it.
Quote:That being the case, under which category would an atheist religion be filed, theism or atheism?
I think the aforementioned would best be filed under "Deez".

Racism in and of itself doesn't have rituals and rites. The KKK is a specific group that does specific things. Similarly, despite how sweeping and institutionalized Jim Crow and apartheid were, they were specific manifestations of racism.
Christians are theists, but not all theists are Christian (or even religious). The KKK are racists, but not all racists are members of the KKK (even if they sympathize/agree with them). Nazis are fascists, but not all fascists are Nazis.
This isn't a difficult concept. Belief (or a lack thereof) in something doesn't equal a religion or institution. That requires behavior.

Nope the ism suffix is not a system it's a state . Without a belief in god (a = without, theos = god, ism = state of mind or an attribute ) . The ism does not denote ideology it denotes a personal state of belief . Being no belief . So this statement is bullshit
Quote:Atheist religions exist, this is fact.
Even if that were true . Atheism itself is not a religion
Quote:That being the case, under which category would an atheist religion be filed, theism or atheism?
Neither because atheism is not a religion

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them." -Jesus Christ
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him - Jesus Christ
Please explain which of the commandments of Christ the KKK observe...
Is it the one where he states thou shalt do no murder? How about the one about treating others how you would want to be treated?
Like I always have to explain to you dummies, just because one states they are a christian doesn't make it so, one has to live by christian principles. Whatever happened to requiring evidence to support a claim? However It seems when it comes to Christianity you're more than happy to accept an unsupported claim, hypocrites.
