It obviously was popular, so for that I can't say anything but that I didn't like it, for the reason I just stated.
I clearly remember one time hanging out at a friends house, when an episode about vampires was on, and his girlfriend said, "How do you know it isn't possible?"...
"Pro wrestling" would to me be on par with that show. Not so much now, but back in the 80s and prior, you could risk getting beat up for calling it an act.
I simply saw too many people taking that show way too seriously.
I have my own escapism too, but man, some people cant tell the difference between fantasy and real life.
So basically your dislike of the show is based on how others misperceived it rather than forming your own opinion from having watched it yourself? It seems to me no way to live where you allow others to ruin things for you.
No, it bored the hell out of me all by itself. Other shows bore me too, but few of them had got to the point of annoying the hell out of me.
I can't watch the sitcom "Friends" either. Never liked Forest Gump or Titanic either.
What the? You, "It seems to me no way to live where you allow others to ruin things for you.'
Translation, "I like it so you are obligated to like it too".
Shell B and I had the very same conversation about likes and dislikes over steaks. She likes them pink in the middle, I like mine well done.
Did you miss the part where I admitted all I could say was, "I don't like the show"? I never said others had to hate it because I do.
Long before I got annoyed by others, I had already disliked the show. I was merely compounded by my observations of others talking it too seriously.
I accept that others do like The X-Files, and it was obviously a successful show. Nowhere did I deny that in this thread. The only thing I can say couldn't stand it.
I am sure plenty who know me here can tell you how much they think ABBA sucks too. That has never stopped me from liking ABBA.
I seriously get it. You like that show, and that is fine. But I am not obligated to like it anymore than anyone reading this is obligated to like ABBA. I am well aware of what many here think of my favorite band.
