Hawking is only in our memories now, he isn't in an afterlife just like he didn't exist 4 billion years ago.
How do you know that?
Because we know you wish it.

Hawking was the type he would not want others to be sad forever. My late mother was much like that, long ago she printed out a saying for me, "Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened." Hawking had a great sense of humor, and in honor of him, here is my favorite Big Bang Theory clip.

Because we all heard Fred Phelps trumpeting his glee that George Carlin was roasting in hell, but we're charitable enough to understand that you're not all as bad as Phelps.

Why would he believe otherwise?
I didn't ask for reasons to believe otherwise... I ask for reasons to believe the following statement

For the exact same reason we believe there really isn’t another roadrunner79, identical to you in religiosity as well as all your other less disreputable salient foibles, presently roasting on the sunward side of the moon. The reason is that nothing in what we really demonstrably know, as oppose to merely wish to believe, vaguely suggest that could even be infinitesimally probable.

Because there exists not a shred of evidence to the contrary.

How do you know that?
How do you know Thor isn't the cause of lightening?
How is it you rightfully reject that?
What should be so frightening to you if you accepted your finite existence?
Sorry buddy, NOBODY in antiquity had any damned clue as to the modern scientific knowledge we have today.
Human psychology explains now why humans make up these god/deity claims. They are ALL MERELY a reflection of human qualities in comic book form.
That was then, this is now. If you can rightfully reject claims of Thor, or Allah or Vishnu, then it should not be that hard for you to understand why I reject one more god claim than you do.
I am sorry it bothers you that I don't give your pet flavor of deity a pass, but that is your baggage, not mine.

That sounds like a textbook example of the argument from ignorance.

Are you appealing to modern scientific knowledge as your reason. Because I would concentrate on that as an answer to the question. What is this modern scientific knowledge, that gives you reason to believe your statement (which I've been asking about).
I don't think that trying to redirect the conversation is helping you.
