But a girl in my work was being messaged on facebook with creepy as fuck messages by a guy we both sort of know . She wanted confirmation from me as to if the messages were creepy as fuck and they definitely are.
I advised her to tell some other people about it because the guy is trying to come across as if these messages are all fine and he's just being a friend to her.
She was trying to convince herself and me that that's what he might be doing so I said if that's the case she'd be fine with talking to him about these messages in front of all our friends as part of a standard convo, but I know she isn't because she knows he'd be humiliated because these messages are creepy and embarrassing.
I was dying to tell other people in our social circle myself but she already swore me to secrecy. We just laugh about this thing now, I don't think the guy is a serious threat, just a creepy opportunist.
A lot of this sexual harassment in general on social media is very predictable though. Even if the person is harassing someone they know, the act of harassing someone feels more of a departure from a personal experience and it can be done very spontaneously.
Why didn't she block him?
We both work with him, it would make the situation awkward. He wasn't being threatening just creepy and he ceased once she just gave him one word answers and behaved in a way that was obviously not interested. I can relate to that in a way because I remember having a stalker who knew where I lived and it was more comforting to not block her entirely and ignore her than just to block all contact from her and not have a chance to know what was going through her crazy mind. I moved house since then and I would feel way more comfortable blocking if the stalking started again.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
