Val, the problem with that might be the competition.  Imagine if there were hundreds of you/us all after the same target...

To the hunting naysayers here, deer overpopulation is a real problem. For the deer, for the cars, for the people and for the CROPS.  So to the vegetarians, realize the hunters are actually helping to protect your food.  Would you get upset with people who eradicate grasshoppers to save the crops?  I doubt it.  The number of deer that hunters are allowed to shoot in a given year is decided/regulated based on the population of the deer.  That's why OLB was assigned a specific # of tags.  Trust that they will never authorize so many kills that the population will be in danger of extinction.  How many times have you heard about deer wandering into grocery stores?  It's happened here in Tinytown.  Overpopulation of any species is hard on the species itself.  And I used to be in insurance claims....  Hitting deer KILLS PEOPLE.  And people swerving to KEEP from hitting deer kills people.

I'm anti-gun and I wouldn't hunt myself but I'm not against others hunting during hunting season if they wish. The first day of hunting season is a big day in the rural town where I'm from. My friends who have killed deer also eat the venison, it's not purely for sport. And the friends who hunt are working class and having the extra food packed away in the freezer helps.
I also remember many a night speeding down rural highways and swerving to miss deer in the headlights. Not a good sight when you're driving 70 mph on a winding back country road.

Regarding deer, one ran through our neighborhood this morning. I worry that some lunatic is going to try and bag one from his front porch. Anywhichway you look around here there's a house. This is what happens when natural predation and limitation is nullified.

An uncle used to keep his freezer full using only a bow.  But then he had a stroke so now he gets his meat at the butcher's same as me.  I have nothing against hunting for food so long as that is regulated in a way that keeps the herd healthy.  Now as far as Bambi is concerned, I'm sure he'd be underaged and therefore not available to hunt legally.

I have only whacked one fawn - normally they aren't worth wasting a tag.

Th one I shot was right after first snow - and it was missing a front lower leg - almost certainly from a car collision. It would not have survived the winter.

Only got about about 15 lbs of meat.
