The democrats winning the house means that Trump can't pass any legislation without Democrat support.

Trump never could pass legislation. No President can.

He can write executive orders, he can make cabinet appointments and Supreme Court Justices when vacancies occur. Congress has to confirm - and damned near didn't a couple weeks ago.

Only Congress can make and pass legislation. It was doubtful they could have before this election - and even less likely now.

Welcome to gridlock  - something that' s gonna be around for a long, long time.

There's so much wrong here.

1. Trump doesn't pass legislation, true, but he has to sign it into law. So legislation usually aligns with the President's views. If you don't think that Congress works with the President to pass legislation then you're misinformed.

2. Congress doesn't confirm justices / judges. The Senate does. If you think that Kavanagh "damned near didn't" get confirmed then you were watching some fantasy news channel.

3. Congress has been passing legislation for the past two years. I'm not sure what rock you've been living under but since the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate they had an easy time passing laws.

New assholes are born constantly.  They are going to get worse not better.  That is no reason not to vote against them.

Human nature stays the same. But it is mediated by culture.

Culture is shaped by living memory.

Generations die off and the lessons get forgotten only for the same mistakes to be made again.

Anyone remember what started to happen 90 years ago?

It's always a contest between those who want to hold to higher standards and those who want to take advantage of the opportunity to violate them. As with the tolerance paradox, that failure to be intolerant towards intolerance leads to an absence of tolerance, those who defect from the common good and its support, and those who do nothing to oppose them, simply hurts the common good in the long run. It's human nature to aggressively punish defectors, so if you feel the Republicans are defecting from civil and appropriate discourse, you should aggressively oppose them. If you don't vote, you simply make it easier for the common denominator to sink ever lower.

Quote:Florida restored voting rights to 1.5 million felons who have completed their sentences

And now, those felons, who are predominately black, can vote in the next election. If you voted for the referendum, you did win something important.

I live in Florida

I hate voting

It makes me feel filthy

But yeah I voted straight dem yesterday because the difference is very stark.

I even posted on here that wouldn’t vote but yesterday I knew I had to and yes as a Floridian the results are bad

The felons thing ended some Jim Crow bullshit though

OP I know how you feel

It sucks

It tears you up that the right can be so ugly and still win. I really get it.

Meh.

Yep, back to not voting ever again in my life.  I should have stayed true to myself this year, but stupid people who think voting matters peer pressured me into voting.   Wacky

Well, thanks for voting. Now with the right to vote restored to felons in Florida, it has now become easier for Democrats to win next time. So please vote again next time, and every time there is an election in Florida that you have a right to vote in.

Also, why the hell is voting not mandatory in the US? Here in Australia, they penalize you if you don't go out to vote.

Republicans are opposed to greater voter participation. Unless that changes, or a greater number of people support it, it ain't gonna happen. I'm in favor of it, but the only realistic path would be a constitutional amendment, and that ain't gonna happen. I'd be in a favor of an amendment delegating the right to set uniform voting and registration requirements to the federal government, but that's unlikely to happen for the same reasons.

You must be stoned outta your mind.

NOTHING has changed.

Half the pubs already had it in for Trump. A few more (  D )s won't make a difference.

Gridlock will go on - as usual.

With both sides pointing their fingers at the other saying "It' s all THEIR fault!!!"
Are you stoned ?because finally Trump does not have an unrestrained hand and can't push his destructive agenda forward. If that's the price of gridlock i'll take it.
Seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.
