The end of the Artic Ice Sheets?

Just like we no longer use rotary phones but now have cell phones.

No one said anything about banning transportation. But the personally owned private automobile needs to go. Retards think tailpipe emissions are everything. More realistic people know that the carbon footprint of manufacturing billions of private coaches is astronomical. Green Consumerism is more about the money than the environment.

Been thinking the same thing about private transportation for years.

Unfortunately for us, the internal combustion engine, private use of and roads for is at the very heart of our culture.

I've long seen it as a matter of 'when' not of 'if' . Private transport as it is right now, will go , eventually.   Probably not in my lifetime.

In my city, public transport is a disaster. EG to drive to work used to take me 24 minutes. Door to door public transport 1.5 hours. I live in a hilly area. Shopping centre is far for me to walk.  OF COURSE i would survive without a car, but I would also be very isolated.

It's likely I will need to give up driving within the next 5-10 years. Then I'll probably have one of those golf buggy thingies. Assuming course I don't develop some ghastly disease, or just drop dead.**

The energy industry is moving in the way I predicted over a decade ago; the market is turning towards renewables as oil has becomes more  expensive ,and supplies are running out.  Alternative forms of energy are becoming increasing economical.

I'm curious to know what will replace oil in the dozens of other uses it now has, especially in plastics and fertiliser..  I'm unconvinced that using food crops for fuel or possibly plastics is a viable long term solution.

I'd have an electric  or hydrogen car now if I could afford it, but not a hybrid. I consider hybrids over priced transition technology

RE: The end of the Artic Ice Sheets?
The term "ice sheet" refers to ice over land, like the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. According to Google, an ice sheet is: "a permanent layer of ice covering an extensive tract of land, especially a polar region."

Ice over water is typically referred to as "ice cover" or "sea ice."

I have read that the Arctic sea ice is supposed to be completely melted in the summer before 2050. I haven't read when it is likely to disappear altogether all year long -- if at all.

The ice sheets will likely take centuries to melt completely. If we curtail our carbon emissions quickly enough, the East Antarctic ice sheet (which contains the vast majority of the ice) likely won't melt completely.

I doubt we will get our emissions down quickly enough to save the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets in the long run. And combined, they will ultimately add about 12 meters to the sea level.

"Bitching" has the very real side effect of informing others.

I'm not so sure. Bitching to the choir doesn't inform anyone. Folks spend a lot of their time working very hard to convince people who already believe that global warming is real that global warming is real. I have a 'No shit, what are you, yes you, doing about it?' If they get mad at that approach, they are virtue signaling and I'm spoiling their game. Note that Jehanne didn't get angry.

Wow. In my opinion, you are one of the biggest "virtue signaling" people on the forum. You are always posting about your own superiority to others. You try to suck the air out of most every room you walk into.

Giving up their cars is simply not among the realistic possibilities for most people, and to dismiss "green consumerism" out-of-hand is incredibly irresponsible because it does make a difference.

Do you even know the level at which natural processes would be enough to absorb our carbon emissions without CO2 building up in the atmosphere?

I hate that term. The moment anyone talks about achievements or their passion about a cause, they’re “virtue signaling.” Fuck that. Brag, talk it up, do whatever you want.

Oh fuck you. Start trying to figure out how to live without a car instead of blathering at me about how unrealistic it is to expect people to live without cars. You don't like the way that I talk to virtue signaling frauds like you? I obviously don't give a shit. We aren't going to make any significant progress on global warming until frauds stop virtue signaling and start living like they really are threatened by global warming. Virtue signalers need to be ridiculed. If we don't ridicule them, they are just going to keep jerking off.
