They should - but likely won't put in provisions to punish anyone filing a report for revenge.

I suspect those will actually be the majority.

Practically anything that involves having certain people being putting on lists literally at the discreation of the government is something I'm weary of as well. I recall people wanted to post maps of gun owning households and have that information on file. There are more ways than one that could have been abused.

We were at 291,000,000+ people in the 2000 census IIRC. That means the total number of crazies is about double what it was in 1960. Keeping tabs on them is a bad idea? (Blanket statements about anything is just lazy thinking.)

If everything worked the way the right sells on firearms, nobody would be bitching and we would not have the level of firearm violence we do. It is that simple.
