What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Been sick for the last few days, and only just now is it bad enough that I’m not going to work today. And it’s legitimately kind of awkward partly because the laptop still won’t charge, and partly because I just started reading Street Gang and it starts with something legitimately creepy, at least for someone who’s currently nursing a sore throat:

Jim Henson is not on his A-game here, and this turned out to be his last public performance, because 11 days later, he died. Kinda unnerving, but then again, I don’t have a Christian Science background, and I actually have something like this happen once or twice a year and I always recover. Spooky, though.

Nothing exciting. It just goes up and down, forward and back. it's electric.

Getting ready to go to my Business Law class, still sick. dad says my throat sounds better but I’m coughing more often. I should be okay If I use a surgical mask, like I’ve been doing for the last couple days when I had to go out, and since I’m getting a take home exam which may or may not have absurdly high stakes, I Probably shouldn’t miss it, And it looks like the saga of the battery charger goes on for one more fucking day because the guy tasked with ordering it got a plug that was too big. I should point out that two days ago, this guy found a verified charging cable and all he had to do was order one just like it, and he failed that task.

Plug in a cat and they go up and down, forward and back, too.

They also go “meowzzzz”

Just picked up a belated birthday present to myself, a Vox Superbeetle guitar amp. It's designed to replicate the sound of the Vox tube amps commonly used during the British Invasion. Tube preamp and transistor final stage. Sounds great, plenty loud, though I do want to plug it into a 4 ohm cabinet for twice the power.

I've always wanted a Vox continental keyboard.
So far I've got a cheapish Korg so I'm sought of getting there. :-)

Just remember to keep speaker sensitivities for the 4 ohm cabinet in mind, because just doubling the power will only make it 23% louder. I remember talking about my apples for apples volume comparison for guitar amps called the X-score. You might want to look it up, since you seem interested in the volume question.

From my calculations, I suspect that if you really want it to be twice as loud, you’ll probably need one speaker with 100 dB sensitivity or two with 97dB sensitivity. I’ve been talking with someone from Weber speakers and, despite not publishing sensitivity specs on their website (because the ratings some speaker companies give can be misleading), you’re probably looking for something with a 50 oz ceramic magnet or two 35 oz ceramics (Greenbacks maybe).

I’ve got my own little Vox amp, well, it’s technically a jury-rigged contraption I call the Vaux consisting of a Joyo Preamp,
A Nightfire 14 watt amp, a 6.5” speaker, and a laptop battery, which sounds nice, but I’ve been considering making my own speaker cabinet to boost the volume. Here’s what I’ve decided I’ll get if I ever decide to make it.

Also, that charging cable for my laptop FINALLY came today! So now, I can finally charge the damn thing in my own home. I am now using my properly charging laptop to listen to the "Manifestos" episode of Last Podcast on the Left and order one of the few fully two-strip Technicolor films on DVD not in my collection: Whoopee.
