Depends. I've spanked my kids for repeatedly doing something that would get them or their siblings hurt, or killed. Been awhile. It wouldn't surprise me if I never spanked them again.

Dogs, well....I kept a different kind of dog than most pet owners..so, yeah, there were moments that it was undeniably a case of reminding them that the bigger dog will fuck you up if you step out of line. I've been bit on the face, the forearms, the calves. I won't put up with even a hint of that shit around my kids. With me, fine, I'm kinda down for it and it was never something that meant they couldn't crawl up on my pillow and snuggle under the covers. Another one of those probably never happen again things..I'm done with dogs since I had to take Easy and American down to the creek and shoot them in the back of the head. They got popped chasing rabbits over a mine access road, same road I'd spank my kids for if they ever step foot on it. The clay out here is a bitch to dig into, and the stones you need for the cairns are heavy. Done with all that. I've got a buddy who has a few dozen well trained beagles, so...when I want to do that, I just go over to his place now. I get to be the "fun" big dog, who always has treats and never scolds you for anything, no matter how rough you get, lol.

As an aside...if I could be anything other than what I am for a day....it'd be a beagle in a big pack.

Unnecessary. Doesnt actually work. Spanking is stupid.

Spanking between consenting adults however can be fun.

In all seriousness, spanking does work, but for the wrong reasons. It teaches a child to submit out of fear. That doesn't translate to the child understanding consequences for their actions for the right reasons. 

I do know myself, that when my parents spanked or hit me, it only made me more insecure and more defiant.

I think it would help people learn to parent better if they didn't feel it's normal to get violent with children. "Stop crying, or I'll give you something to cry about" isn't a good mentality. It only creates a rift between you, and the other person. Discipline, sure, but don't assault them.

I do remember one time my mother was spanking me, and hitting one spot below my butt hurt a lot more than the other places, so I asked her to aim higher. She ignored me, and later wondered where I got that giant bruise below my butt. I'm like "Where do you think I got it?".

Yeah...spanking cant be good...but, I do like to think that at least, in some cases, it's better than the alternative.
