Cannot remember if I ever updated anyone here on my career change, but I am a CNA. I work at a long term facility, nursing home, where I deal with the elderly on a regular basis working the overnight shift.

We are on lock down due to orders from the Federal level, which means no visitors. Staff have to do temperature checks before starting their shifts. Fever temps means we get sent home.

My only concern is catching the virus and passing it onto my boyfriend, who is twelve years older than me. At forty, I'm still young(ish) in relation to survivability when it comes to this Coronavirus. Even at fifty-two, hopefully the boyfriend is as well.

They have been taking temperature since last week. It can catch some cases, but if one is still incubating, you can transmit the virus while no symptoms are present yet.

I used to joke that the world needed a plague. I sincerely take it back. This fucking sucks and is really scary.

Normally, this would be where I demonstrate  that, while The recovery from the recession under Obama was long, rocky, and arduous, it did actually happen by the time he left office. I heard some talk about a big Coronavirus conference coming from Mayor Lightfoot. Surprisingly, there was no announcement of a lockdown. Instead:

• An order for people who are sick to stay home except for medical help or food. There will apparently be consequences of some sort.
  
• Schools closed until April 21 now.
  
• Mostly, a stay on a lot of economic deadlines that are in place.

Portugal os under state of emergency. Basicly only travel to work places, pharmacies, doctors etc. no cofees, pubs open. Restaurants only with take away.

I work at food industry, essential. Canned food demand tripled, while fresh meat decreased a bit. Just going by the expenses form, 2000 euros for disinfectant gel, when we had the same amount of it for half the price -.-; Masks also overpriced. We always used those, mind you.

The factory that provides the empty cans is at 50% and other suppliers are shutting down. Shit is hitting the fan.

Currently watching the livestream with Mayor Lightfoot and Governor Pritzker to see if this is going to be the day Illinois gets put on lockdown. It took about 8 or 9 minutes to start.

And this time, Pritzker got to the point and announced a stay at home order for the state after about a minute. It starts 5 pm tomorrow and Ends on April 7. And there’s not much different from what we’re doing right now except it has the force of law behind it. And by force of law, I mean that, if a cop sees someone out and they’re not A) out buying essential items, B) getting medical care, or C) doing some outdoor exercise, they’re probably going to talk to them and tell them to go home.
