I'm pretty sure the uptime messages are usually from servers ...

I'm only saying what was in the sigs and they most definitely reflected a hyping of their machines uptime ... you guys don't want to believe they did well fair enough but I know what they were doing. I also accept that attitudes may have changed now (though I was fairly environmentally aware at the time because I know I wasn't impressed and considered such things a waste of electricity).

I'm not saying you are incorrect Kyu; I'm sure there are people out there who keep their PC's turned on for ages and display messages like that. I'm equally sure that most people display an uptime for their server, since it makes more sense to display that (since servers are rarely switched off).

Even if it is true that these people are displaying the uptime of their PC's, I can also relate stories of times on Windows forums where people had the same thing, albeit running off a program that you installed on Windows and linked to through your signature.

Can we compromise on it was their PC but it was also their server ... Linux guys (in particular) seem to have a reuse everything philosophy so I can easily envisage a Linux techy running a network for his or her house or whatever and also using it as his/her client PC.

Never seen it (tends to be a proud declaration of their hardware especially if they are some kind of AMD [SPIT!] whackhead) and I defo think that kind of behaviour goes more hand-in-hand with Linux evangelism but yeah, sure, being a Windows person doesn't imply you can't be a dick.
