In the hospital

RE: In the hospital
I'm watching my INR rise... just got up to 2.0. Feel damn weak too, tho' I can manage walking a couple of miles till I have to stop to get my breath like an old man. Luckily my job is quite sedentary, and I can still drive. I get dizzy all the time too. I can understand your stronger symptoms.

Miles... I consider it a win when I can get from the couch to the bathroom without my cane. LOL

Thanks for the note frodo - at least I'm not the only one going through something like this. Hope both of us get well soon.

Even downhill is quite an accomplishment. Big Grin It gets a little better every day, but the first few hours of the day are challenging to say the least. The first few hours of every day are difficult to say the least, but a heating pad, compression sock and pain pills help a lot.

At least I'm not depending on the pills nearly as much as I was. It's all too easy to become addicted to them.

I had my first post-embolism experience with stairs today - made me feel about 30 years older than I am.

It's really freaking out my 9 year old son - seeing his dad needing a cane to get around and obviously in a lot of pain, when he knows me as a big strong guy who can do anything without anyone's help (obviously he sees me as a bit larger than life).

It was heartbreaking to see his face the first time he saw me as helpless as I am now. I did explain to him why I'm having such a hard time now, and that it's probably temporary. I think he understood.

I have kids 9 and 10 IB. Yeah what a shocker. I certainly idolised my Dad. Important lesson to see you managing it I guess.

Had an ultrasound today. They took several vids. Amazing tech even so basic.

That's what my therapist said to me today: that how he sees me handle adversity will leave a big impression on him, good or bad. He has to see me not give up, no matter what.

Yeah, the ultrasound technology is cool, even if its not as sexy as CT or MRI. It was very cool to see things in realtime.

No such luck. All the hot nurses must work down south in Portland.

Blaspheme, I hope you get better soon.

RE: In the hospital
Thought I'd post a quick update.

Today is the first day I've been able to hobble around without a cane for support. The pain is manageable without a ton of narcotics today. To top it off, I can almost wiggle the toes on my right foot. They go up a bit, but not down yet.

After all the challenges of the last two weeks, a day like this feels like a huge win.

I'm hoping tomorrow will show even more improvement.

Doc told me a little while ago that I have a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs). So I get to enjoy hospital hospitality for a few days while they thin my blood and make sure I don't get a thrombosis lodged my my heart or brain.

No prayers, please. Send cash and booze.
No cash, nor any drinks, but my goodwill towards your fast recovery.
Gute besserung.
