Any Plans To Reach Out?

Any Plans To Reach Out?
While it hasn’t happened to me, I understand that a lot of relationships - among family, friends, coworkers - have been damaged or ended due to the political divide exacerbated by Trump’s lack of leadership and stunningly amoral behaviour.

Now that it appears a dead cert that Biden is going to be your next president, do any of you  plan to try to repair those relationships? Why or why not? If so, how?

RE: Any Plans To Reach Out?
I have gotten used to not getting into discussions about religion with people in my life...at least those with a bit of distance. I will probably continue the same way when it comes to politics. I'm not pretending for anyone but am willing to shelve a subject. Hope that makes sense.

There are some people who I wasn't real close to that I just let drift away due to their backing of Trump and crew.

Unless it's someone I'm close to, I usually hold my personal beliefs - particularly on religion and politics - to myself. Too many people out there identifying with their faiths.

My sisters have blocked several cousins on Facebook. I don't know if that will change. One is pretty crazy without the added Trump factor.

Our family is more on the side of trying to keep in touch, at this point. I only recently found out that one of my younger brothers likes, or at least voted for the chump. Rolleyes  It certainly isn't going to change the way we interact with each other. We argued (not just him and I) as children, because that's what siblings do. FSM help you if one of us saw you threatening one of our siblings, though.

I have not had communication with my father in more than a decade, and it never had anything to do with politics. No point in reaching out to that man, despite that he is getting older, that is for certain.

I was adopted at the age of 5 and a half or so. Back in the mid 90s I sought out and found my biological family. We have nothing in common. I don't talk to them, not because I hate them, but because we have nothing in common, especially politically.

However, my late adoptive mother had nothing in common politically, but she raised me, and even today, if it were not for her saving and constant support, I would be living in the streets. She was a mostly lifetime voting Republican.

And my best friend from Oklahoma, John, also known as "Hillbilly Atheist" here, he is a liberal from Oklahoma and his dad is a Republican Trump supporter. Don't dare ask him to stand against his dad.

Considering I paid for a trip for John to visit me here in NC, and paid for a trip to Australia for both of us, his dad may not like our politics, but he certainly does not hate his son or me.

I'll dip my toe in the water but I wont be holding my breath. They were both pretty irrational, especially regarding covid. He has been listening to Limbaugh since the 90's.

I should find out in about 10 days.
