It does not make sense to put migrant children in unlicensed for profit detention facilities with a history of human rights abuse. Not for a weekend, not for night, not ever, for any reason, by anyone.
We could do literally any other thing, and we choose to do this thing...again.

At most, detention centres should be used as a transfer point while the kids are placed in something along the lines of group homes. A web search informs me that when a child is taken from an abusive home environment, the average time to place them in foster care is about 48 hours. Other than callous indifference, I can’t see any reason why an unaccompanied minor should be in a Carrizo-type facility any longer than that.

Protecting blue politicians in red states.
It's not callous indifference. They know it's bad and it's not as comfortable for them as it was for the last admin - clearly. It's that knowing all that, and feeling that way...they still went ahead and did it. I suppose that it doesn't help that ICE has publicly telegraphed the fact that they don't believe Biden is their real boss. Whether that makes it better or worse is up to the observer.

3.They temporarily reopened the camps under better supervision because the previous Administration messed the whole system up. Thus it's isn't a new bad thing it's a temporary stop-gap till they have fixed all the previous bad things.

I think I agree. While Biden could have handled this better, I think it’s a fuck up he’s seriously interested in correcting.
In January alone, something between six and seven thousand unaccompanied minors crossed your southern borders. These kids had to be housed somewhere, and the existing facilities probably seemed like best immediate option.

I keep seeing the word temporary. They were temporary before, too. Is that what's wrong with concentration camps? Permanency? If only they only had to operate for a short while, they would be a-okay? If only they had more efficient administrators. At least until we find some sort of final solution, ofc.

I think that our desire for a better world and our presumptions of bidens decency are doing a hell of alot of work in this one. There's simply no universe in which these camps are a necessary component of any plan to do any other more decent thing.
He...fucked....up. You can say it. It won't kill you. Unless that's another bad thing from the last admin he was in that we've returned to - maybe they're tapping phones and revving up drones. I mean, why would honest joe lie about anything like a common asshole caught tossing babies down the memory hole?
