The implications of Obama's words at the Charleston shooting memorial.
April 8, 2021 at 3:49 pm
(This post was last modified: April 8, 2021 at 3:49 pm by Duty.)
I recently viewed the documentary "Emanuel" about the tragic Charleston mass shooting, in which a racist moron killed churchgoers. I found the documentary to be incredibly moving at times and it brought a literal tear to my eye more than once at surviving relatives of victims recounting of the events. Near the end of the documentary there is footage of Obama, the then president, who travelled to the town to speak at the church memorial for the victims.
Here is the, by my mind, unconscionably stupid, delusional and BEYOND distasteful....he said, to rapturous applause and cries of gleeful agreement from the huge choir and crowd, of the massacre: "God works in mysterious ways!"
So Obama, and the cheering crowd, think that the massacre was God's will, and they worship and love God and so, basically, approve of the events, the massacre, the bereavement, because God is good, all the time, and all the time, God is good. He then moves on to sing "Amazing Grace."
Could anything be more twisted and fucked up than the president of the USA and all the locals saying they approve of the massacre because, like everything else, it's God's will???!!!
Therein lies the ultimate proof of the shite identity and stench of Christianity, and more broadly religion in general. A ludicrous scourge to decency and abhorrent buggery of intelligence.

You probably read him wrong on that one.
Quote:We do not know whether the killer of Reverend Pinckney and eight others knew all of this history, but he surely sensed the meaning of his violent act, an act that he imagined would incite fear and recrimination, violence and suspicion, an act that he presumed would deepen divisions that trace back to our nation's original sin.
Oh, but God works in mysterious ways.
God has different ideas.
Out of this terrible tragedy, God has visited grace upon us, for he has allowed us to see where we have been blind.
For too long, for too long, we have been blind to the unique mayhem that gun violence inflicts upon this nation.
It's a fair bet that he's insisting that god did not approve of the killers actions and the killer would not get what he wanted. Gods will, as he put it there, was that we may finally snap open our eyes and see something. We didn't.

You need to take into account the audience he was speaking (preaching) to.
Great for the religious, not so much for atheists.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

TGN - I saw the footage of what he said, I read nothing and do not know where you pulled that quote from as you have provided no source link.

The singing of Amazing Grace was probably a comfort to many.
Obama was at the funeral of a minister...it's important to understand who made up the bulk of the audience.

Or maybe the guy believes in god and interprets and communicates these things in a manner wholly common to people who believe in gods.....?

Obama's words in the proper context
Quote:PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:
We do not know whether the killer of Reverend Pinckney and eight others knew all of this history, but he surely sensed the meaning of his violent act, an act that he imagined would incite fear and recrimination, violence and suspicion, an act that he presumed would deepen divisions that trace back to our nation's original sin.
Oh, but God works in mysterious ways.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:
God has different ideas.
Out of this terrible tragedy, God has visited grace upon us, for he has allowed us to see where we have been blind.
(APPLAUSE)
BARACK OBAMA:
And I'm convinced that, by acknowledging the pain and loss of others, even as we respect the traditions and ways of life that make up this beloved country, by making the moral choice to change, we express God's grace.
(APPLAUSE)
(PRESIDENT OBAMA AND AUDIENCE SING "AMAZING GRACE"
