Well...some of it has been, and it's been the recognition of that and a commitment to change it that characterizes psychology as a science in the 21st century. Remaking themselves from the study of mind to the study of behavior (though they may soon reframe it as the study of mind again as diagnostic tools improve).

Alot of the so-called "soft sciences" have been tackling this dilemma. Archaeology was bible and spade for centuries. Turns out that meant centuries of mistakes and fundamental misapprehensions. Now they're pointing satellites at the desert and picking up trails that half a dozen people over the span of a millennia may have used.

Why would a psychiatrist help if psychology is pseudoscience? The order of predication makes that a bit of a mystery. If the study of mind or of behavior is not or cannot be scientific, what - then - would the study of mind or behavior altering drugs be reduced to?

1) Not an argument.
2) True, which is why religion doesn’t play much, if any, of a part in psychology.
3) Which is why the discipline has moved beyond Freud over the past half a century at least, and probably closer to a full century.

Dude, take a Psych 101 class. Like, ever. It’s not therapy, it’s just learning about the discipline.

What reliable effect should some substance have on a fictional thing? Why doesn't coke make me feel the same way that aspirin does? Why not prescribe meth to treat anxiety?
