Lost a bunch of chickens this week. Wondering what did it (beyond my kids laziness with gates and doors). Whatever it is, it's committed. It's repeatedly found ways in or ways to entice the chickens out of a line that goes cattle panel>garden fence>hardware cloth and chicken wire>6ft chain link. I had too many hens to keep them locked down in their hard house (which is in the middle of all that) for any significant period of time.

I'm trying to look at it as an opportunity to breed a new flock, the land telling me what works here. The production hens are all spent this year and it would be time to think about purchasing another if I wanted to continue with the breed. 14 of the lost were f2s, 2 were f1s, only one was a heritage breed - all of the chickens lost were buffs or reds, and none were over 7 pounds. None of the lost birds are monochromatic - the barred rocks and silverlaces appear to be pulling some zebra shit on whatever it is that's chasing the others down.

Get 'em some spurs. The hens probably won't work each other over, but they might "clean" the predator's teeth, and guts.
