I realize that we've had cell phones for awhile now, but what the hell ever happened to hand-written letters? That was good enough for centuries, if one was lucky enough to get the necessary materials for letters. Cellphones are an unnecessary frippery, in my book. Spoiled fucking prisoners get more than a lot of poor people do!

It's pretty freaking relevant. Poor people are at least free to speak to their friends and family. Prisoners tend to lose contact with people on the outside. Which has negative effects on their reintegration into society. It also tends to make prison less dangerous because the prisoners are less stressed.

You do realize many criminals are poor right? Also, why there in prison is secondary to the fact their in prison.

There is a welfare program that provides free, cheap cell phones to the poor and elderly. The same concept is probably being employed for these prisoners. I imagine it's not an expensive program.

My feet are completely jacked from wearing ill-fitting cast-off shoes from the Goodwill store or purchased at garage sales. Nothing like showing up at school and having a classmate recognize that I was wearing their old worn-out shoes. My mother was a devout Catholic and insisted on donating money to the local church.   They used to send us back a check at the end of the year, reimbursing her donations. Score one for the local church, I guess.
