RE: Noteworthy News
Calls have steadily intensified in recent weeks for the European Union to suspend a trade agreement with Israel as the country’s right-wing government has ignored growing condemnation over its anti-Palestinian policies and its assaults on Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon—but on Tuesday, German and Italian officials blocked an effort to pause the trade deal, with Germany’s foreign minister saying the move would be “inappropriate.”

Somebody should remind German and Italian politicians that they will not repent for past crimes of their countries by going easy on genocidal regime.

The EU agreed to release the €90 billion loan to Ukraine on Thursday following months of tense negotiations.

"The European support loan for Ukraine has been unblocked ― €90 billion over two years," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Hungary and Slovakia ― who had previously blocked the financial package ― failed to object before a 3 p.m. deadline, clearing the final hurdle to approve the loan.

Hopefully it will give Ukraine what it needs to defend from fascist aggressor.

It couldn't come at a better time, given that Trump has basically abandoned Ukraine. That's typical Trump, he abandoned the Kurds and now Ukraine. If there's nothing in it for him, they're just suckers.

They're calling it a "loan," but Ukraine only pays it back if Russia agrees to pay huge amounts of reparations. Since that will never happen, it means that the EU is handing over free money.

There's some question of how long they will be willing to keep this up.

At least two years. More willing than Trump was to keep it up.

In the Middle East, you can have peace or you can have Israel. Not both.

Choice is simple then.

Long enough to outlast a state whose own officials are afraid of repeat of 1917 revolution I would say.

Looks like our Russian troll opposes the WWII lend and lease program. I mean the US helping both UK and CCCP to defend themselves against german aggression.

He seems to think this would have ended WWII earlier. He may be even right. Why trying to completely defeat an invasion, when your can get away early with "minor" territorial concessions? Why help Ukraine defeat Russian invasion, when you can start integrating it into EU and NATO early by making it give up some territory.

It just does not make sense.
