Of guns and fireworks OP/ED.......
July 6, 2021 at 10:04 am
Before anyone goes off and claims that I am bringing up guns because they think I am trying to simply trying to bring attention to myself, just stop.
This has to do with ANY excess having to do with having a false sense of security when doing anything or handling a dangerous item.
This weekend a former NHL player was killed by fireworks. Every 4th of July there are stories of people who get injured or die or cause needless fires because they think they know what they are doing. The same can be said with drinking and driving. Humans far to often stupidly think that just because nothing happened for a period of time, nothing bad will happen ever.
I see fireworks no different than guns, or driving. All of those things require knowledge, education, and a healthy respect that you cannot treat them like toys.

Fireworks might be more inherently dangerous than a gun. They aren’t tight little machines with varying degrees of minimal tolerance before they fail to operate. They’re bundles of powder with a fuse made by the lowest bidder somewhere far far away. Last time I got mortars one exploded in the tube and cracked the blocks the tube was recessed into. Never had a rifle explode as I was loading it.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That is not the point.
The point is human ignorance, arrogance, narcissism, regardless of topic. Humans far to often get complacent in their daily lives, and simply assume since something didn't go wrong with whatever for a period, nothing bad will ever go wrong.
No, a gun cant explode on it's own. But one can become complacent and falsely assume it isn't loaded when it is, and pull the trigger. Or they can leave it out and their kid gets a hold of it. I see that as no different than speeding and tailgating and passing on dividing lines on roads driving in on coming traffic. Getting away with something once, or for a period, doesn't mean you can't make a fatal mistake ever. It only takes once.

And everyone should listen to you because you are an expert because your daddy fired off a .38 in the house.
Seems legit.....

Yes, and?
Ok, so we both agree. So the issue should not be about danger, but attitude about that danger and ignoring the danger.
ATTITUDE, is the issue. Yes, there are dangers in life. But humans far too often have selection bias and sample rate error, on top of fear of being wrong.
If JFK depended on the "no rules" mindset of the NRA as a blueprint for the Apollo program, America would not have been the first to the moon. The Apollo 13 team would have died.
Even with aviation and space flight, there is no comparison between the accidents in space travel vs the amount of daily firearm deaths every day.
Sully would not have successfully landed the plane on the Hudson, if he had the bullshit attitude of MTG or Laura Boebert.
