I have to echo Sae's sentiments here (probably slightly different in the specifics but you know how that goes). Would it be nice if we didn't engage in wars? Sure. Since we are, however, I'm a little bit confused as to why we would leverage that sort of violence and suffering to ultimately leave the place as shitty, or with as many problems (or more) than when we went in to begin with. Do it right or don't do it at all, especially with regards to something so extreme as war. Now, I understand that it's difficult to get even the simplest things completely "right", but we don't even seem to be trying.

If the premise is "We are going in to deal with some terrorists", annihilate them completely, swiftly, and efficiently. Make sure that the consequences of terrorism seem so severe and certain that it takes an even more dedicated jackass to pull it off next time. Make sure that the residents of the area understand that they are not our enemies, hell, maybe lend a hand while you're there with such a massive labor force. There had better be more than just a few terrorist bodies to show for it.

So because you had the "luck" to be born in the US with protection from being conquered it's ok. But if you had the "luck" to be born in Iraq you would be against conquering?

They have to portray their wars as half-assed because the public wouldn't condone straight out conquering, even though that is what they are doing. So they tell us things like FREEDOM, and WMD, and evil terrorists will sneak into your bed and rape your wife.

No... it is half assed warring. They aren't killing off citizens in extermination, and they aren't annexing the places they invade, and they are not taking control over territories they bring down the government of.

It is half-assed war. And they portray it as half of a half-assed war.

So if the US just started saying, we want your oil, and we want to keep oil trading in dollars, and the reserve currency as the dollar, so we are going to bomb and kill thousands of innocent people, in these countries to get what we want, nananaaaaa we have bigger tanks.

How about we shred the military beast, and make it about Defense, like the name implies, even the government did public relations, why do you think they changed it from the Department of War; Department of Defense sounds less aggressive. It's all about how the public perceives things.

And that was my first option for my patriotism. Either war, or don't war. Do not fucking half-ass war or play at some halfbaked-peace. And the motherfuckers do both at the same time.

Within the constraints of that poll I support war because I don't believe that pacifism is always valid option when faced by an aggressor. I would adopt a pacifist approach if I was confident that being conquered wouldn't threaten the well-being of my countries populace but this is rarely the case.

I am completely in support of butchery of millions of babies in Wherevistan... if doing so will make me safer, richer, and/or will increase my options. I am also in utter support of the complete dissolving of all militaries and the meltdown of all firearms... if doing so will make me safer, richer, and/or will increase my options.

Other people's lives usually are less valuable than mine. This is rational. Value is subjective. I can count the people I value more than myself on one hand, perhaps 2 if I am lucky enough to adopt children in my future.

And I especially do not value the faceless multitudes of the world at large: they haven't earned my friendship, and they likely have not earned my respect.

The hell would I join an army for? I hate conformity... and the army is nothing without all of its members looking the same. Besides, that's against my MO: it makes me less safe, poorer, and decreases my options.
