US man sues psychic who 'promised to remove ex-girlfriend curse'
A California man is suing a psychic who he says falsely claimed she could remove a curse put on his marriage by a witch hired by his ex-girlfriend.
Mauro Restrepo said Sophia Adams promised she could save his marriage if he paid $5,100 (£3,742) to exorcise the spell, according to a fraud suit filed with the Torrance Superior Court.
Ms Adams allegedly told Mr Restrepo he and his family would be "unhappy and in danger" if the curse was not lifted.
He is now seeking $25,000 in damages.

The psychic’s defense should be that she was cursed by the same witch the ex-girlfriend hired. She could then counter-sue the man for pulling his ex into her (the psychic’s) Akashic aura.

How come nobody is suing the witch that originally cast the curse? She seems liable for the most damages. Like the $5,100 spent to uncurse her curse, and then some.
But I don't really know how that all works. (I never went to law school.)

Seems like Viagra should have been in there somewhere.

There are no such things as "psychics". There are just people conning others. The worst of these bunches are the ones whom insert themselves into murder cases to get attention. Sylvia Brwone couldn't even predict the year of her own death correctly, she was off by a decade if I remember correctly. I remember when she was face to face with James Randi, and told him he had heart issues. Well, at the time, considering his age, how was that magic?
I am going to bet this suit is going to get thrown out, unless the judge is superstitious themselves. P.T. Barnum "There is a sucker born every minute."

Perhaps we should, as a society, support the notion of witches and magic. Just imagine the potential for income that otherwise unemployed or poorly employed people might gain from it. The real trick is to make sure that the most wealthy of society completely buy into the idea because that's where we need to siphon off most of the revenue. Poor people taking advantage of other poor people doesn't help anything, but just imagine if all the rich people spent any significant fraction of their wealth on magical predictions and cures. It would be a windfall. There's opportunity for the lawyers as well, as clients would be required to sign complex legal waivers for any bad side effects they might suffer.
Why is it so?

Of course there are psychics. Don't be daft. Simply because they're all frauds doesn't mean they're not psychics. It's a job title, not an indication of supernatural ability.
For the record, Barnum never said that.

That sounds like when an astrologer sued NASA for $300M claiming that the probe that punched a crater into the comet messed up her horoscope.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Certainly the word and label exists sure. But they do not have the power of anything real. It is still a con.
Just like the lady in the box isn't really being sawed in half in the magic show.
It is a mental con on their part. It only seems real to the people who are gullible enough to buy their crap.
If one wants to believe in Santa or Unicorns bad enough, they will.

Ok then, why is it widely attributed to P.T. Barnum then? If he didn't originally say that, could it be said he repeated it and popularized it?
Could it be like some of Edison's claimed inventions that he really didn't invent, but merely beat his competitors to the patent office?
