And it looks like LA has put a vaccine mandate into practice:
Quote:Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a sweeping mandate Wednesday requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter a wide variety of indoor venues.
Under the ordinance passed by the Los Angeles City Council earlier Wednesday, patrons aged 12 and older will have to show proof of full vaccination at indoor areas including restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters, convention centers, card rooms, museums, malls, play areas, spas, salons and indoor city facilities beginning Nov. 4.
It’s one of the nation’s strictest vaccine mandates, according to the Associated Press.

And given that, since I got my second jab in May, I've worn my vaccination card on a lanyard around my neck every time I've went out for anything more than taking out the trash, I'm actually ahead of the curve for once. Oddly, in all that time, I can count the people who've actually noticed this on one hand, and all the times I've needed to show proof of vaccination on one finger. Fortunately, though, it looks like I won't have to change anything if the city of Chicago (or maybe the state of Illinois) makes a similar ordinance.

I'm not in LA County, but adjacent. We get the news out of LA, and I've seen where restaurateurs are bitching about the "burden" of checking. It can't possibly be any worse than carding people for alcohol sales.

Another text from work, adamantly informing people they won't have a job come next month if they don't vaccinate or don't have a proper letter for decline.
No new hires since I started there a couple months ago, which means in-house staff will be further reduced and the majority will remain agency.

I can come up with two reasons:
1) Odds are, only a minority of the customers in those restaurants need to be carded, and not every one. Not much of a burden, I admit, just an extra hassle.
2) Dealing with anti-vaxx jackasses who flip the fuck out at anyone who dares to enforce COVID-related restrictions like they're actively trying to get on r/publicfreakout.

Like those jackasses in NYC who beat up a hostess for asking about their immunization status. If there was ever a time for irony, it would have been at the point where that hostess turned out to be a martial artist. Sadly, not the case.

Okay, I think I came up with a reason why #1 might be a somewhat bigger burden than i originally thought: having to turn away honest people who neglected to bring proof of their vaccination, which can be a problem since the official vaccine cards are of a size inconvenient for wallets and having to pull it out and repeatedly unfold it can increase wear and tear, and while you could just take a picture of it and keep it on your phone, that photo can easily get lost in the shuffle, especially if you’ve taken a lot of photos in the meantime. I don’t even know if There’s a way around that, but if there is, the fact that I don’t know what it is tells me that there’s probably millions of others who also don’t. Hence how I came up with the lanyard solution. For anyone curious, Here’s the passport sleeve I use and if you don’t have a lanyard lying around the house, here’s a cheap one on Etsy with free shipping.
