I watched that one recently too.

Haven't seen that. I'll see if I can get hold of it.

I've watched about half of "A Woman In Berlin" (2008)

It's a German movie about what happened to the women in Berlin and the rest of Germany when the Russians arrived in 1945. It is believed there were a couple of million German women raped by Russian troops. This was deliberate policy; payback for the way the Nazis behaved in Russia and all of Eastern Europe.

What Up, my Sensitive Nuclear Technologies? This week in the Deep Hurting Project is the closest thing to a horror film in the Drama category of my DHP Tubi watchlist: an Asylum movie called Titanic II.
  • So that's what Chris Hansen's been up to in all this time he hasn't been doing livestreams! Learning how to fly a chopper!
  • I wonder if Cunard paid to have their name put in this movie.
  • And what the shit kind of lawyer-friendly version of "All Along the Watchtower" this even is.
  • You think that if her father had this sort of inside knowledge, he'd have pressed the issue further with her. Especially since this is apparently a ship that was rushed to make its maiden voyage on the anniversary of the original Titanic's voyage. A voyage where she never made it to New York.
  • The Titanic II is the fastest ship? You are aware that the original ship was never actually built to be the fastest ship, right? That was just a myth created so Hearst could find a way to blame J. Bruce Ismay.
  • Wow. What a strange coincidence; everything that happened when the original titanic sank is happening on the anniversary. Whatevs. It's not like the sea is populated with superstitious sailors and they're actively trying to repeat as much as possible of the most famous maritime disaster in history.
  • Also, why are they wearing such little protection on an Arctic iceberg?
  • Somehow, they have zero interest in protecting their ship from a tsunami?
  • Two people ran into the same stanchion post right next to each other. This has to be the most orderly chaotic run I've seen in some time.
  • They never expected a hit from the side, even though they took so much pain to avoid repeating the same mistakes as the original and the iceberg hit that sunk the original involved JUST SCRAPING THE SIDE OF THE ICEBERG.

  • Also, a majority of the lifeboats are unseaworthy, even though regulations passed in the wake of the original iceberg was that ships needed enough lifeboats to hold all passengers.
  • Women only?
  • You know, the strange thing is this may be the first Titanic movie I've seen in a long time that didn't (consciously or through osmosis from previous films) lift plot points directly from the Nazi Titanic film.
Hopefully, if Transmorphers doesn't randomly leave Tubi the same way The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson did, I'll review that film next week. And the week after that, hoo boy, do I have a shitton of choices for horror movies, and, yes, it is Halloween.

I finally got to watching Costa-Gavras's movie "Amen" (2002) based on a famous play from the 1960s.
The movie is about the complete indifference of the Catholic and Protestant Churches to help Jews who were being gassed.
The movie follows an SS officer and then one Jesuit priest who are trying to alert the Christian clergy of what is happening so that they tell the people who would then mobilize and perhaps stop it all, even reaching Pius XII, but as you know from history, it was all deaf ears.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

‘As Good As It Gets’. I consider this to be an ironic title for a film because, every time I watch it, it gets a little bit better.

RE: The Last Movie You Watched
This week in the Deep Hurting Project, I was going to try to watch Transmorphers, but I decided to check up on what other titles might have suddenly become  unavailable. And I found a few films that just got randomly added to Amazon Prime. Two youth films, and a comedy. And of the two youth films, both had connections with some horrifying people who had something momentous happen to them in October. The first was Leo the Lion, a movie about a vegetarian lion that has what looks to be a rape scene, and if you're wondering if the horrifying person in question is Harvey Weinstein, the answer is yes. But then again, the other horrifying person in question has his own holiday, so now, we're going to look at The Magic Voyage, an animated film about Christopher Columbus and how he went to the New World, not to discover it, and not even to exploit the natives, but to save the girlfriend of his bookworm (and I mean a literal bookworm) buddy. Yes, this was made in 1992. And, to get you in the mood, here's something that might help you understand some of the riffs I make:

  • So, apparently, this was originally made in Germany, but I'm not going to hold this against them. Apparently, most of the problem of this film came about as a direct result of the American dub.
  • And insert remark about how people didn't actually believe in a flat Earth in 1492 here.
  • Although, apparently, Columbus believing the world is square is a new one to me.
  • Why do I get the feeling that the gulls arguing over the fish didn't actually speak in the German dub?
  • Well, it's nice to know that Angelic to the Core wasn't the first hint we got that Corey Feldman was a shit singer.
  • Why does the bookworm know the true shape of the world?
  • So, Columbus is voiced by Dom DeLuise doing what I can only assume was his audition tape for the Super Mario Brothers movie. And sometimes, you can tell that his dialogue doesn't match his facial expressions.
  • I'd accuse the filmmakers of ripping off  Beauty and the Beast, but I suspect that the turnaround time is too short for them to do so.
  • What do you want to guess that the king's henchman is making a joke about the flying man going out the window by force of habit?
  • King Ferdinand's advisor looks so stereotypically Jewish it's not even funny. Or is he a converso?
  • I remember watching the Nostalgia Critic review of this film and he claimed that having Columbus having an affair with Queen Isabella was a unique touch, but then again, Stan Freberg did long before them. That said, having the Queen cuck the king right in front of him does seem unique.
  • What do you think the makers of the film were thinking to themselves "This is stupid fun?"
  • Actually, a woodworm is an insect. A beetle larva and not a worm, but still an insect.
  • Why is that bell constantly ringing? So, full disclosure, I don't drink (alcohol doesn't play nice with the antidepressants [yes, plural] I take). Is the sensory overload I'm getting from the constant noise in this movie a good indicator of what a hangover is like IRL?
  • So, that bottle didn't break. Not a good sign, if I know my sea lore.
  • I'm not sure if the line about how the crew will mutiny if the rats leave the ship is meant to be stupid or not?
  • Columbus is talking to and kissing his little worm? God-DAMN, Columbus must be flexible as Hell.
  • Not a fan of wrestling? You probably missed Wrestlemania 6.
  • Fish Heads, Fish Heads! RoLy PoLy Fish Heads! Fish Heads! Fish Heads! Eat them up, YUM.
  • Was anyone asking for a kid's movie where Christopher Columbus jacks off in his sleep? The fact that he pulls a spyglass out of his crotch doesn't help this interpretation. I bet you think I'm kidding about that, don't you?
    [Image: NegativeImmediateAlpinegoat-max-1mb.gif]
  • Rumble Rumble Rumble! Mutiny Mutiny Mutiny!
  • I have to admit, staving off a mutiny by singing a half-finished song about how great the sailor's life is seems like an interesting take, even if the accompanying visuals probably came from a Tragedy of Man mockbuster.
  • Yep, he repeated the "if you leave the ship, the crew will mutiny" line to the rats. That was apparently meant to be serious.
  • Are those sharks? I ask because one of them just fucking roared.
  • Wait, do locusts eat wood?
  • Also, they apparently landed somewhere in Guatemala. That pyramid looks a bit too MesoAmerican for the Caribbean where Columbus actually landed. And why are there beavers there?
  • Or would you prefer a nice piece of shit?
  • Why do the rats know what wildlife belongs where?
  • Well, that death by drowning was needlessly graphic and uncomfortably in what looks like real time. Good thing the sun actually rose and revived her somehow.
  • There's going to be a city where we are right now! And I'm going to open up the first Italian restaurant! Progress! Also, did they just imply they were in what would be later implied to be New York City? Now it makes even less sense!
And, now, I'm off to list my choices for horror films for next week.

And my choices for horrible horror movies for next week's Deep Hurting Project:
  • Alice in Murderland, wherein someone decides to make a slasher movie based on Alice in Wonderland, but still has it take place in a warehouse Sorority House.
  • Ants on a Plane, wherein Lifetime decides to make a Snakes on a Plane mockbuster.
  • Arachnicide, wherein a drug cartel gets revenge on the military and spiders are apparently involved.
  • Bear, wherein a bunch of idiots are menaced by a psychic bear.
  • Blood Orgy of the She Devils, wherein there is no blood orgy.
  • Creepozoids, wherein the man behind Santa's Summer House and A Talking Cat?!? brings us an Alien ripoff.
  • Curse of Pirate Death, wherein a really unimaginatively named pirate becomes a slasher villain.
  • Hobgoblins, wherein we have another movie that even MST3K couldn't make watchable.
  • I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu, wherein we have a sequel that takes place either 20 or 40 years after the original (the movie can't decide
  • Monster, wherein the Asylum decides to make an even lazier mockbuster of Cloverfield than usual.
  • Raiders of the Lost Shark, wherein a flying shark just keeps eating people for some reason.
  • The Ripper, wherein either a college professor turns out to be Jack the Ripper, or it's just 90 minutes of talking about Jack the Ripper and Vincent Price movies.
  • Shark Exorcist, wherein it turns out that there's a filmmaker dumb enough to make a shark movie in landlocked Nashville.
  • Snakes on a Train, wherein there's another Snakes on a Plane mockbuster, but it's the Asylum making it this time.
  • The Source, wherein the Asylum takes nine days to rip off The Craft.
