OK. I retired 7 years ago. Woo-hoo, I'm rich!    Most of my money is tied up in investments, and I want to be sure that I have enough now that I don't run out before I die, so I spend as little as possible. And I sure as hell don't want to go back to punching a time clock. But I live in a 4 bedroom tract house. Definitely not "conspicuous consumption". That whole business with CEOs making obscene amounts of money is just another way to measure dicks, imo.

As an alcoholic in remission I often don't comprehend the alcohol snobs. And I'm quite sure none of them drink correctly.

I just watched was a beer distiller pairing various beers with different halloween candies. Very pretentious. Should probably go into AWTY's what's wrong with people thread.

As someone who doesn't drink any more by choice I have found some differing reactions to that. A lot of people assume that you have a problem if you don't drink alcohol. It doesn't seem to occur to them that not everyone who doesn't drink is fighting an addiction or has a religious reason for not drinking. I've also dealt with the 'who do you think you are crowd' by either being mocked or not being invited to attend events where adult beverages are involved. The second Christmas after I just decided not to drink my mother's comment to me was this: Are you going to have a drink this year or are you still too good for the rest of us?

Yeah, WTF is that all about. It was so strange that I recall it clearly though it was in the nearly 40 years ago.

I used to tend bar and loved it. But I agree that if you are deciding the best libation to go with peanut butter cups, you have too much time on your hands.

Saw an announcement on FB for the bands schedules at Stubbs in Austin. It's a BBQ place and live music venue...the food is really good and I have attended a concert there...but anyway, the name of the band is 'Trampled by Turtles'. I don't care what they play, I just want to know how they came up with that name...it's so great.

I'm way past fighting anymore, but I know it's a lurker waiting for the just right mental state and then............BAM! And I'd be off to the races again.

My wife has a bottle of wine and 6 pack of blue moon in the fridge. I've got a couple of more cheap wines in the basement for cooking. No urge.

The big pavlov's response is to opiates.

Same here, about the ‘no urge’ thing. We keep wines and vodka in the house, I no longer even think about drinking (but it took a looooooong time for me to get to that state).
