This is exactly god told his peeps not to poop in the camp site.

Anyone remember where in the Bible this is written?

I remember that it says to use the handle part of your sword to dig a hole (a latrine) and you poop in it and then cover it with the handle part of the sword.
I think the handle part is suppose to be a shovel.

I think there was a part about nocturnal emissions. It says that you have to leave the camp for 7 days and wash yourself. It says that god does not like finding dirty people as he walks among you in your camp.

But it struck me today when I saw someone say something along these lines that it's actually really chilling. Like, sometimes, I'm like, okay, Christianity is trying really hard to give this "you're not alone" "death is not the end" intention. Other times, it feels almost like a wed to death religion, where death is glorified, death is aspirational, the end of everything is triumph in itself. And it's very creepy and malevolent. But I include it here in the stupid things because I think they're mostly ignorant of how their wish for the deaths of everyone could be interpreted as an evil thing.

You mean that christians look forward to their death?
Well, they have been convinced that they don’t really die and that they are going to go near their god and they will be in heaven.
There wasn’t much to look forward to long ago.
You reach the age of 6 or so and your family makes you work on the farm. Perhaps you can go for a walk in the forest but eventually, it gets boring. It’s just trees and bushes and some birds making sounds.
Maybe at around age 15, you have to marry someone and one after the other, a kid is born and you have to take care of them.
There are no motors, no machines, no automation. Everything is made by hand and slowly.
And there is the occasional disease.
So, it makes sense that ancient humans invented a utopia (heaven).

Today, we have a lot more entertainment: TV, movies, sitcoms, books, documentaries, video games, your local park, go for a drive.

We might have more to do/more going on than simply watching the still living, rather than being obsessed with and consumed by the previous state of existence.

Well, if that is the afterlife, that’s just more boredom.

I think it is hard for ancient humans to invent a descent description of heaven. Something that would be appealing to them.
Can you invent a heaven that will be fun forever and for everyone?

Telling someone that their relative is watching over them is just a psychological band aid to the sadness.
It is easier to tell them that ^^^^^ instead of telling them “He is dead. He is over. He is in the ground and he is decomposing and he smells like cadaverine and putrascene.”

The idea that a disembodied soul goes somewhere is borrowed from the Greeks. As far as Christian mythology goes, on the last day every person will be resurrected (a bodily resurrection). Then they'll go to God for judgment. God will either cast them into the fire or grant them eternal life. So, according to Christianity, nobody is watching over anybody from Heaven.

When I attended a Christian funeral last March, the preacher said my dead sister-in-law was in heaven dancing with Jesus. The heretic!

I think it is safe to say that there are as many Christian denominations as there are Christians.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Just so.

There is a Buddhist saying "Ten thousand monks ten thousand religions" ***

This seems most pertinent in India. There is no consensus about how many gods they have. The figures vary between 15 and 30 million.

*** in this context, 10,000  is a Chinese term. It means an indefinite multitude, effectively all of creation.

It is my position that each believer cherry picks dogman to discover the beliefs and practices on which he will focus.  As far as I can tell, neither spoken nor written language can fully express ideas and the nuances behind them.  Hence there are divisions and differences within every major religion. Most of us here have probably come across the differences in beliefs followers call christian.

That’s correct.

John 3:13 KING JAMES VERSION
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven.

^^^^^No human has gone to heaven yet.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 KING JAMES VERSION
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. {4:16} For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: {4:17} Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

^^^^^When day X comes, dead will become alive and they will float up to the heaven.
Then the alive people will float up to the heaven.
Except, see Revelation 14:4

Revelation 14:4 KING JAMES VERSION
These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins.

^^^^^Also, you have to be VIRGIN.

Starting from Revelation 7:1, you have the 144,000 thing (12 tribes of jews and 12,000 people are picked up from each tribe)

Revelation 7:4 KING JAMES VERSION
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

^^^^^So, only 144,000 jews from certain tribes are going to heaven.
Most christians are not going to heaven.
There is a line somewhere about the meek inheriting the Earth.

I think this is what jehova’s witnesses preach. They think they will be on Earth. I hear that they don’t discuss that thing about 144,000 jews.

You can also read Revelation 21:1 and the lines after it.

Revelation 21:1 KING JAMES VERSION
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

^^^^^So, the space-heaven will be gone and a new one created.
The Earth will be gone and a new one created. There was something wrong with those atoms/molecules, so a new one is needed.

And then, there will be a new Jerusalem. The rest of the save humans will live in that city. There will never be nighttime. You don’t need candles or LED lights. No need for street lights, no need for lightbulbs for cars.

Pat Robertson came out of retirement to claim that Putin "is being compelled by God" to invade Ukraine in preparation for a massive End Times invasion of Israel.

Yeah, as if Christians can't wait to die, and yet they have the nerve to claim how atheists don't have a reason to live.
