No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear. (December 9, 2021 at 11:06 pm)masoni Wrote: How much have religions always been tied into geopolitics? Going back to Egypt and Mesopotamia at least. Also in China, The Indus Valley and Meso America. Organised religion has always had a symbiotic relationship with the status quo, often legitimising who or what happened to be in charge . In turn, religions have always been allowed to shear their flocks. Still very much in all of those areas except the PRC which remains strongly anti religion. The poorer a country is the more powerful are religions. There is strong correlation between religiosity, education and poverty. Affluent countries tend to replace organised religions with perhaps secular humanism or even simple hedonism. Probably just a coincidence. RE: Random Humorous Things - A Light-Hearted Thread

Nemo sicut deus debet esse! “No matter what men think, abortion is a fact of life. Women have always had them; they always have and they always will. Are they going to have good ones or bad ones? Will the good ones be reserved for the rich, while the poor women go to quacks?” –SHIRLEY CHISHOLM Boru

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Disappointing theists since 1968!
I had a '56 Chevy station wagon that I (over)loaded with roofing shingles one night, back when I was putting an addition on my previous house. I took side streets at 25 MPH because the headlights were pointing way high and the (manual) steering could have been power steering. I probably should have put down the second seat and shifted the load forward, but I was already tired enough as it was. Those shingles stayed in the car overnight.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

He was a gardener and had a small nursery in the back yard, which was very handy. I bought a 6x4 trailer so we could take plants to Sunday flea markets. I never learned to reverse. Are you familiar with the term "jack knife"? Well it did that, and sliced open the back door. Embarrassing and expensive. When I was still living at home, Da donated twenty 50lb sacks of composted cow manure to a local youth club who grew veggies to donate to poor people. My brother and I were tasked with delivering it, and loaded all 20 sacks into the boot and backseat of Mike's 1972 Cortina. We stopped for petrol on the way, and the man at the next pump saw how low the car was riding and said, 'Good lords, lads - whatchu got in there?' and Mikey answed, 'A half-ton of cow shite.' The man got angry and said, 'Just asking, boyo, no need for the smart mouth.' Boru
