In 10 years, those who are part of right-wing culture in the anti-abortion states may actually change their minds and like the new bans.

Familiarity and peer pressure can combine to make people comfortable with oppression.

I think this actually going to be a serious problem in the "heartland" states. Beau of the Fifth Column put out a youtube video on the matter last night (my time) and it's well worth watching as he's in the heart of this whole situation. There's going to be a lot of people walking into polling booths in November with a lot of pent up and supressed anger over this ruling that they can't publicly acknowledge.

There is a Fox News poll out today which says that Americans are more evenly divided on the question of allowing restrictions on current abortion rights ala 15 weeks.

The sad thing is you’re wrong. That said, the lives saved are very rarely the kind that benefits the world, because it turns out that, if abortion is murder, then maybe demanding that the person who tried to have someone else killed take care of them for 18+ years might lead to decades’ worth of resentment on both sides.

They’re legitimately outraged over the leak - they didn’t want the decision released until after the midterms. Now, they have to spend the next six months explaining why they pushed a policy that the overwhelming majority of Americans don’t like.

That was going to be impossible the court ruling is in June, the election is in November.

‘Likely’ in June. The Court has become so politicized that delaying the decision until sometime after they reconvene isn’t out of the question. I know that the Supremes are supposed to be above those sorts of political shenanigans, but Justice Thomas has given the lie to that little fantasy.

This draft has been circulating since february. It wasn't the midterms themselves they wanted to avoid. It was the primaries. They'd hoped to squeeze a few more dominionist nuts through the gate before anyone noticed.

That said, it's entirely possible that this was leaked by one of the reich wing judicial activists themselves, in order to lock wavering confidence.

So, I take it that the people at Gallup Polling are True lefties? Because according to them, 80% of the population is in favor of keeping it legal in some cases. Admittedly, it looks like the “only in some circumstances” is broad enough to cover everything from “maybe IDX should be illegal” to “only in cases of rape and incest,” but that still leaves 32% saying it should be legal under all circumstances, 19% saying it should be illegal in all circumstances, and only 2% "who don’t really give a shit one way or the other.and wish the 98% would STFU and go beat a different drum for a while"

Alot of times they ask a person if they favor a federal abortion ban - and people who favor a state abortion ban, and vote for anti-choice politicians...will say no...to the the federal ban.
Then there's the phenomena of people knowing what the right answer is, and giving that answer to a stranger. So, while the notion that the numbers may be off, or suggest something untrue about americans opinions on the issue...I don't think your numbers have anything to do with that, or with more than one person, even.

Maybe you 80% don't care, and 20% wish people would shut the fuck up about it either way?

Not so long ago, I considered the Republican policy on abortion was one they never meant to make law.  It would be dumb.  Doing so would both remove a motivation for their side to vote and increase motivation for the other side.  But, this is not William F. Buckley's party.  No savvy high brows allowed.
