Is there a reason the daemons are always the opposite gender of the human in His Dark Materials?

Gods are like astrological signs: the one you get born under is yours.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
The dogs hate the vacuum cleaner. I let them out while I cleaned the floors and forgot that it actually rained for the first time in two months last night. Black clay becomes black goo after a rain. Quinn is like Pigpen in the Charlie Brown comics so dirt follows him. I had to stand him in the tub and try to spray off his feet. Then I look and Zig's big ole feet are caked too.
My vacuuming was a waste of time and there is no sense is doing it again until the little mud balls dry. The joys of pets. smh RE: Random Thoughts

When provided the freedom to be bad, man will usually go against the better judgment of his conscience.
Because what if those who think they are right, implementing laws for everyone to follow, are actually wrong?

Art, of which literature is a part, is supposed to make you think. The bible is supposed to do just that, unless those who interpret it a certain way only want you to believe it says what they want it to say.

I would gladly support any fictional villain just because the idea of moral goodness rubs me the wrong way.

Morality isn't an absolute - it is a set of rules that attempt to support a set of values. Why would a moral character rub you the wrong way, unless you disagree with the values his/her morality was based on? |
