Supernatural and Atheism
RE: Supernatural and Atheism
Quote:How many atheists say that a person can be a man or woman based on how they feel? Or that a man can give birth to a child. These views are out of line with science. It's all about feelings.
Gender isn't based on biology and thus there is nothing that contradicts science in that claim.... Dodgy

And the majority of scientists in relevant fields accept this fact.

What are the relevant fields?

Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology,.....etc

Even biologists accept that gender isn't biological.

We could make a long list of non-scientific beliefs that atheists on this forum strongly believe. Not the same for every person, but there's a lot.

For example, LinuxGirl believes the Bible would be better if it had science in it. This cannot be proved by science; it's a value judgment concerning literary hermeneutics.

Lots of people think that science is the best or only way to know about the natural world. This cannot be proved by science; it's a belief concerning metaphysics. (And I'm not saying it's wrong, only that it's not itself science.)

Lots of people want religion out of politics, which is not something that science can prove. It's a belief about what kind of government is best.

These are the ones that come to mind first, but there are lots of others.

So atheists stick to their non-scientific beliefs just like anybody else.

No biological man can give birth to a child; some biological women can't either. What's your point?

Yup but someone whose gender identity is male can.

The word "science" descends from the Latin word scīre, which means "to know".

Point taken. Some transgender males do give birth and do not consider themselves to be "women".
