It’s starting to become apparent (to me, anyroad) that Trump doesn’t actually want to be President again, any more than he wanted it the first time. He’s not holding rallies, making incendiary speeches, etc. He’s simply fundraising.

It’s about the money. He’s going to keep sucking cash out of his dim witted supporters for as long as he can. This is a man for whom EVERYTHING is transactional - the only way he’ll stop interfering in politics is if the money dries up.

It doesn't make sense to spend the last two years just investigating someone, especially, when that investigation is publicly known. As for Trump are there even any active grand juries still around? And, so, no, his declaration of his candidacy for President will probably prevent his prosecution until he is, finally, out of office for good.

You're correct in that candidacy conveys no legal immunity, but Garland has been very sensitive (some, myself included, argue too sensitive) to political optics and is almost certainly loath to indict a presidential candidate.

There’s no telling how long it will take, but he seems to be move fairly quickly.

Since Thanksgiving, Smith has brought a number of close Trump associates before a grand jury in Washington, including [color=var(--theme-paragraph__link-color)]two former White House lawyers[/color], three of Trump’s closest aides, and his f[color=var(--theme-paragraph__link-color)]ormer speechwriter Stephen Miller[/color]. He has also issued a flurry of subpoenas, [color=var(--theme-paragraph__link-color)][/color] in battleground states where Trump tried to overturn his loss in 2020.

All that in under three weeks.

Beats me, but between that and other legal issues, at best Trump will be a distracted candidate, and at worst, any potential leaks could torpedo his campaign. It's hard to say, and my Magic 8-Ball ain't cooperating.

Trump could probably have sex with a goat on Madison Avenue and 5% of the American population will still support him. Even if he is indicted tomorrow, it will take an entire year before any trial takes place, probably, longer. As I said, he is going to run for President, either as the Republican nominee or as a third-party candidate; only death and/or profound disability will halt that outcome.
