Were it not so offensive to democracy, I'd love to see Biden have Trump arrested right now and call it an official act taken in order to secure democracy.

Too bad the fund is for the "Biden-Harris" campaign.  They're conveniently forgetting the "Harris" part.

My guess is that the Supreme Court will hand a win to Trump with this one.

The current court is willing to use "original intent" or "texualism" when it suits them, and make up shit when it doesn't.  They will get their desired result regardless of any precedent or reason.

I think that would backfire on election day. If you think her base is energized now, let them think the Republicans stole her money.

In large part because these loudmouths yell a scary game and collect a large number of guns, but lack the balls to follow through on their threats.

I don't claim to know much about American army and going by gut feeling I wouldn't expect them to support putschists but there are far right scum there and many things previously thought unthinkable happened.

That one soldier out of five is highly likely to be white, southern, and rural. White rural southerners are more likely to be domestic terrorists or sympathizers - as that's the cultural basis or identity of domestic terrorism in the us at present.

"The Army" - broadly speaking, otoh....is the most successfully diverse institution in the us. A pioneer of the genre.

I only know what above mentioned book tells me and it's focus isn't on army so I won't dispute your take. If "The Army" really is successfully diverse then it's a good thing. Still as a Pole I wouldn't put much trust into armed forces and I certainly wouldn't trust Poland army to not fall in line with would be dictator. Obviously however this have little if anything to do with US.

Oh I wouldn't trust ours either - there's a long romance between militaries and dictatorships - it's just that a white christian dictatorship isn't in the interests (or demographics) of the military as an institution at present. Secular apolitical professionalism is a better way to organize forces, it protects the service at home and abroad - while diversity of background, thought, and competency is a strategic imperative. The us military learned this lesson early, and the hard way - by fucking up and trying everything else first in true american fashion. There are tens of thousands of immigrants serving in critical roles in our military as a path to citizenship - which has been a thing since our country's founding. PFC Bumgartener isn't going to suddenly turn on his battlebuddy PFC Ruiz on the say so of some clown in washington or because suburban moms and dads have racial resentments. That's a critical stopgap - as accidental and cynical as it is. Because suppressing civilians is one thing - being told that you have to turn your guns in on the unit is another entirely - and it makes you ineffective at both, either way.
